Good afternoon ladies,
Now I don’t know about you but the thought of willy straws and feather boas brings me out in a cold sweat. I’m sure you will all have been on one of these kind of hen-do’s, it really is a right-of-passage for most women, but really there is an alternative.
I know when I was recently involved in organising my friends hen party her brief to me was no gimmicks just keep it classy, and I think this is how a lot of women are thinking nowadays. Glamour and sophistication does not equal boring – you can still have a bundle of fun, you can still laugh until your sides hurt, you can even get silly and dance on tables if you want to (erm, perhaps!). But you can do it with a little more style and grace. What is a hen party about anyway if not getting together with those wonderful ladies in your life to celebrate being you and doing something special in those last few days before marriage? Quite frankly who wants to spend those days dancing in a grotty nightclub, with groups of drunken men letching over you and your mate throwing up in the corner, or is that just me?.
If you prefer a more sophisticated and stylish event then your answer comes in the form of Nicola from ‘Silver Sixpence in Her Shoe’ who I have mentioned before on the blog for her divine collection of vintage inspired accessories. Well this talented lady is actually sharing her years of fashion and textiles experience and offering some absolutely fab workshops where you and your gaggle of hens can learn to craft your own fascinators and headpieces.
Nicola is kindly offering Pocketful of Dreams readers a special discount, so read on for details. **Offer now ended**
Nicola will bring along a variety of vintage materials, all set-up in lovely vintage pots, she will teach you all about finding inspiration, how to design and professional finishing to help you create a fabulous headpiece or fascinator to wear that is totally unique!
I am so in love with this idea, not only do you get to do something creative and learn a new skill (plus points for me), but you also get to fashion your own totally individual headpiece, that no-one else will have. Epitome of style perhaps? Hell yes. And how fabulous for your hens, when they get to the wedding to have been involved in something so lovely that they can then all chat about and show off their handcrafted fascinators to all your (probably) rather jealous guests. It’s genius.
You could even add that extra little element to the day and involve a professional photographer to capture the fun. The photographs featured here are from a party Nicola held recently and have been kindly provided by the talented and super-lovely Hannah Dornford May. Hannah is also a wedding photographer based in Lancashire and having met her and seen her portfolio I can honestly say her work is fabness so if you’re searching for a wedding photographer then please do check her out here.
