Inspiration: A Round-up of Bridal Inspiration Boards published on Love My Dress

Hello everyone,

If you’ve been dropping by this week you will know that next week is going to be shorter than usual on the old posting schedule here on Pocketful of Dreams as I am only going to be posting once a day so I can have a little bloggy-break. So no new mood board next Monday I’m afraid.

Fear not though as I have a bumper round-up to share of all the Bridal Inspiration Boards I have recently had featured over on Love My Dress blog. There’s been quite a lot and I don’t want you to miss any, plus I am very proud of each and every one of them, they take a lot of time to put together and a heck of a lot of planning and thinking goes into each one.

Love My Dress Blog, featured on, published, wedding blog, wedding blogger, inspiration boards, mood boards, vintage inspired, vintage era, Annabel Beeforth, Michelle Kelly, Pocketful of Dreams

Each bridal inspiration piece I have published on Love My Dress is built around an entire concept and I try to provide not just inspiration but ideas and tips on how to take that style and make sure it is faithfully represented across the decor and styling, as well as throwing in a few ideas for the bridal and bridesmaids styles in an accompanying Lookbook.

This is how I like to work with clients as well, helping them take that initial nugget of an idea and pull it all together into a working creative concept, so if you would like something like this creating for your wedding day or event then please do get in touch with me. Let’s chat through your ideas and see if I can help you.

Here’s the most recent ones with links to the full posts over on Love My Dress where you will find all the details behind each style:

The Pretties: Eclectic Mix Bridal Jewellery and Accessories

I first connected with the lovely Rebecca Scott the designer and creator behind the brand Eclectic Mix Accessories many moons ago and was delighted to find out she’s from my neck of the woods (Lancashire). It’s often the case that I see an amazingly talented designer and find out they are from London, so to know Rebecca is right on my doorstep was a dream come true, and to see her freaking amazing jewellery and accessories designs too, well put it this way ~ I was blown away.

Rebecca knows a thing or two about luxury accessories having designed for various brands including Garrard’s, Boodles and Links of London. And this is so evident in her designs, Eclectic Mix  creates some truly unique and so very chic pieces, conceived from Rebecca’s passion for collecting antique buttons and buckles. Luckily for us she has now developed a whole range of beautiful bridal jewellery and accessories.

The Tresse Collection

Described as “Feminine, elegant and relaxed glamour. Inspired to capture the beauty and enchanting appeal of the English coastline.  Using the softest hues along with Swarovski pearls, Tresse is a refined and stylish take on beach inspired jewellery”.

This is the debut collection for Eclectic Mix with each piece designed to be multifunctional, from wearing around your neck to a bracelet, belt or adorning your hair. The designs look fabulous no matter how you choose to wear them. There’s a wide spectrum of colourful braids and Swarovski pearls available which can be used to complement bridesmaids outfits too.

All the pieces of the collection are made-to-order and Rebecca offers a truly unique and bespoke service, allowing you to tailor the design to your needs.

In addition Eclectic Mix  also has a Signature Pin Collection, created from Rebecca’s own private collection of jet/glass buttons dating from 1837 through to 1930. Each button is carefully selected for its individuality and beauty and is mounted onto elegant brooch pins to create a very special and one of a kind gift.

Rebecca is said to never be without one adorning her outfit somewhere. They are so simple yet so stunning with such a wonderful tale of history behind them.

The future is looking bright for Rebecca and Eclectic Mix  with two further collections in the pipeline for 2012 and I’m told a very special antique/vintage collection. I for one most definitely want need one of these pretties in my life and I’m pretty sure you’re gonna want one too.

You can find out more about Eclectic Mix by visiting the website, email the studio info@eclectic-mix.com, and keep up-to-date by following Rebecca on Twitter and Facebook.

Love Story: All You Need Is Love ~ A British / American fusion shoot

Well boys and girls I have one of the most brilliant couple shoots I’ve ever seen to share with you today and a rather fabulous story behind how it came about.

The lovely couple featuring are American couple Annie and Brandon, and I’m thrilled to share that Annie is also a wedding blogger who writes the fabulous Marry You Me blog. A little while back they found themselves in London as Brandon was studying and Annie had come along for the trip. One night, during a pub quiz at a boozer in London they happened to meet and get chatting to wedding photographer Celine Chaplin, they hit it off and decided before leaving for home they simply had to meet up with her again for a coupes shoot in London.

Celine said “We decided to fuse together some very British and American icons which is why we had coke bottles and strawberry cakes as well as some Beatles records playing in the background! Not forgetting the bunting!

We had so much fun in Greenwich and then got the boat back into Westminster passing by Tower Bridge on the way; it’s honestly one of my most favourite buildings in the city”.

Pocketful of Dreams Featured in Wedding Magazine Blog Spot

Hello everyone,

I’ve been wanting to share this piece of news for a little while now, well since the 8th September actually when a well-known magazine hit the shelves and I went running into my local supermarket to buy myself a copy.

(Truth be known I wanted to take some snazzy pics but as I missed my photography course last week you’ll have to make do with iPhone and instagram until I can teach myself how to use my Canon properly)

Wedding Magazine, Featured, Published, Wedding Planner, North West Wedding Stylist, Michelle Kelly, Pocketful of Dreams, Event Planner (2)

I am beyond thrilled to have been featured in a top bridal publication, as the lovely editor of Wedding Magazine, Catherine Westwood decided to mention me in her editors letter.

Erm, wowzers.

I cannot even begin to tell you how exciting it feels for a major publication to not only be reading my blog ~ that in itself feels like a massive achievement ~ but also to say such lovely things about me IN PRINT! Eek.

Wedding Magazine, Featured, Published, Wedding Planner, North West Wedding Stylist, Michelle Kelly, Pocketful of Dreams, Event Planner (1)

Thank-you so much to Catherine and her team, for producing such a blooming brilliant magazine ~ if you dont have this one on your shopping list I suggest you add it as there’s always SO much fabness within ~ and for the truly kind words about me and Pocketful of Dreams.

It’s been a crazy year and this is certainly a big fat tick in the old ‘achievement’ box, and one I am so very happy about.

Thanks also to everyone for your emails, tweets and words of encouragement. I couldn’t do it without you all, you inspire and motivate me daily to pursue this creative life that I love.

It is fair to say that things are on the up for Pocketful of Dreams, there’s a heck of a lot of exciting projects in the pipeline, the blog is growing daily (I am still shocked by just how many of you drop when I look at my monthly stats ~ but hello all **waves**), I am involved in a few things that will see me working with THE MOST talented people in the industry to bring you plenty of inspiring and creative party-planning ideas. And on top of all that I am setting up my own business Pocketful of Dreams Events, offering my planning and styling services for weddings and other events.

Thank-you for joining me and supporting me on my journey so far ~ the ride has been awesome and it’s not about to end yet.

DIY: Funky Decoupage Pumpkins

Decoupage Pumpkin, WHite Pumpkin, DIY, Free Stuff, Tutorial, Craft, How-to, Wedding Ideas, Centrepiece, Rustic, Halloween, Funkytime (4)

Hello boys and girls,

I have the most eye-poppingly amazing DIY project to share with you today. I so love it when something is completely new and original and this is such, in abundance.

Perfect if you’re looking for a rustic centrepiece for your wedding, or just an idea for a halloween party. These decoupaged pumpkins are so pretty, I love them, lots.

Created by the wonderful Sibylle of Funkytime, who is a graphic designer and self-confessed design junkie. Here’s the tutorial and how-to in Sibylle’s own words.

Decoupage Pumpkin, WHite Pumpkin, DIY, Free Stuff, Tutorial, Craft, How-to, Wedding Ideas, Centrepiece, Rustic, Halloween, Funkytime (1)

INSTRUCTIONS

I tried two different spray paints. One was oil-based (pictured), the other one acrylic. I liked the acrylic one better, the oil-based one took almost a day to fully dry.

1. Paint your pumpkin and let dry.

2. Cut out the shape you like from the napkin. My napkin had 3 layers, I only took the one, that had the print on it.

3. Brush a layer of mod podge on the pumpkin

4. Press the napkin on to the pumpkin and seal with another layer of mod  podge.

5. Sprinkle a little glitter here and there.

6. Let dry.

*Optional: Spray with sealer.

Pick Me ~ I Pick You: Rustic Wedding Styling Inspiration

Decor, Details, flowers, Holly Stalder Wedding Dresses, Rustic Wedding Inspiration, styled photoshoot, Styling, Wedding Photography (1)

Sometimes something so amazing lands in my inbox that I have to do a little dance of joy around the office to celebrate how wonderful it is. This styled inspiration shoot is one of those things, after I stopped dancing I took it all in, picture by picture and noticed the sheer brilliance of the shoot. It is so beautiful, with the most amazing styling here’s what I love:

The beautiful pinky-red lipstick on the gorgeously freckly bride, which is set off perfectly by the delicate sheer organza veil and flowers adorning her hair

The ethereal and oh-so-pretty dresses by independent designer Holly Stalder, which you’ll be pleased to know are available to buy on Etsy and she ships to the UK, wahoo.

The cute groomsmen in their short sleeves and braces ~ there is just something about this look that really gets me, I’d take this laid-back yet smart look over a morning suit any day of the week.

The Pick Me ~ I Pick You theme running throughout the stationery from the seating chart to the cute little signs.

The whole rustic vibe going on with the brown kraft paper, twine and delicious fruit details.

This is some seriously wow, rustic wedding inspiration.

I hope you enjoy……

Love Story: A picnic e-shoot with wine, scrabble and bubbles ~ Danielle and Collin

Hello boys and girls, and how is your Tuesday?

Right now I am beavering away, working very hard on some very exciting projects. I can’t reveal anything just yet but let me tell you they are EXCITING and I hope you will love them too.

For now who’s up for a bit of love? These guys are gorgeous and a couple after my own heart, they know how to have a heap of fun and that involves wine, a picnic a few retro games, scrabble anyone? Oh and some bubbles, hell what’s not to love about these two?

Such cute little touches with the scrabble board and this hammered heart, a fantastic idea for save-the-date cards. And hello, how gorgeous is that bouquet, to say this isn’t even the wedding bouquet, I adore it.

The shot below is my favourite by far, I adore every single little detail, from that amazing rainbow, to the way the light skips across the bonnet of the vintage truck, to how Danielle and Collin look so lost in each other. Stunning.

Photographer Vanessa Joy said:  Danielle and Collin had one of the most thought-out engagement sessions that I’ve done. From the picnic setting complete with wine to the scrabble board details, I was in heaven photographing them! The weather kept threatening to rain on our parade, but we stormed through it and got some amazing images of the two of them. Rob and I are very excited for their wedding at the same location next year!

Thanks so much to Vanessa for submitting these fab images, I have to say I’m kinda loving this lady’s photography. I love the vintage processing, the vibrant colours and how she has captured those tender moments, so beautifully. Wishing Danielle and Colin all the best too.

The Wedding Dress: Rowan Bridal Collection

Hello all,

Today I have something rather special to share with you, it always makes me very happy indeed when I get to blog about homegrown British talent, young creatives doing their thing and making a mark on the world with their amazing talents. So when fashion designer Rowan Joy Mcintosh first came to my attention, well I knew she would be gracing these white pages very soon indeed.

Having graduated with a degree in fashion from Edinburgh College of Art some 8 years ago, Rowan has been making bespoke wedding dresses for the last 4 years and has recently created her very first first bridal collection.

The collection has 4 designs which are inspired from the styles of the 1920′s to the 1950′s, they are all made to order and handmade for each customer by Rowan in her Edinburgh studio. The collection will have new designs added each season, continuing with the vintage inspired styles.

Being the sole person in the business Rowan is able to offer a really bespoke and personal service to her brides-to-be, she will practically bend over backwards to ensure you have an amazing experience, offering late night or weekend fittings, plus whatever else is needed to make your dress buying experience as enjoyable as possible.

I caught up with Rowan for an exclusive look at the lady behind the brand:

Tell me where your inspiration comes from?

A lot of vintage styles especially from the 40′s and 50′s I am also a big fan of art deco details. I love colour and print and unusual combinations of both.

What are your thoughts on how bridalwear has changed / will change in future?

I think Bridalwear is now much more personal to each bride as there are so many more options and avenues for a bride to go down to get her dress. I think people are starting to become more adventurous in their choices for their wedding dress and are moving away from the traditional “princess” image of being a bride. I also think brides are looking for dresses which are special but aren’t going to break the bank and that is where I am aiming with my bridal collection.

Describe the type of woman who wears your gowns?
I would say the woman who wears my gowns has a strong sense of what she likes and what she doesn’t like and is willing to be more adventurous and try something different. I think they have a romantic and feminine aesthetic but want to do it in a more individual way.
Who would be your dream client to wear one of your gowns?

My dream client would be either Zooey Deschanel or Maggie Gyllenhall. I think both have a wonderful sense of style are feminine and individual at the same time.

What’s your advice for brides-to-be on choosing a wedding dress?

My advice would be to try on as many dresses as possible even if it is only to help you decide what you like/don’t like or what shape suits you. Also not to go for something that is completely different from your usual style, you want to look and feel like yourself on your wedding day. Also at the end of the day its your wedding and your dress and you shouldn’t feel like you are choosing a dress to please others, choose a dress you love and feel amazing in and you will undoubtedly have an amazing day.

I am also rather excited to reveal the latest design to be added to the Rowan Joy collection: The Ella dress. Priced at £875 ~ this light, romantic gown has a gently draped crossover bodice. The dress is fitted at the waist with a flattering curved waistband which a double layered full circle skirt falls from. The dress has a beautiful pleated sleeve detail which uses the scalloped edge of the Chantilly lace to create a real feature. All the details in the dress use a silver satin with the Chantilly lace layered on top which creates a beautiful contrast with the main Ivory giving the dress a special added twist.

I have to say this is one of the most gorgeous dresses I have seen in a while, please do tell us what you think, both I and Rowan would love to have your feedback on her latest addition to the Bridal collection.

Rowan Joy Bridal is available to buy online here, or you can email Rowan for enquiries.

The Designer Vintage Bridal Show Ticket Winner ~ Sat 8th October 2011

Designer Vintage Bridal Show, Emma Case Photography (2)

Good afternoon lovelies,

I hope you’re having a superb day and enjoying this unusually warm weather. Indian summer ahoy, whoop whoop.

The lovely weather isn’t the only exciting news I have to share, for I am announcing the winner of my mini-competition to win two tickets to the Designer Vintage Bridal Show, which WAS being held in Birmingham’s Berrow Court on 8th to 9th October 2011. The event has however now moved to Edgabston Cricket Ground, home of the English cricket team, so my winner is all set to enjoy a typically British afternoon of tea and talent (Bridal talent that is).

I shall delay no more, drum roll-please.

AND THE WINNER IS………

Winner, pocketful of Dreams, competition, wedding show, wedding blogger, wedding plannerDanielle Robinson, or Dani to her friends, is my very deserving winner. She is on the hunt for a wedding dress similar to the one her late mum wore at her wedding day back in 1966 and will be heading to the event with her big sister who is also stepping up into the “mother of the bride” role for her big day. Aw.

I am so thrilled that my precious tickets are going to a wonderful home and I hope Dani and her sister have an amazing time, hopefully Dani will be filling us in on all the details of who she met and if her trip to the Designer Vintage Bridal Show leads her a little closer to finding “The Dress”.

Congratulations Dani.
