Real Wedding Round-up ~ 2011 Weddings on Pocketful of Dreams

Hello lovelies,

And how are you doing on this rather wet and windy Friday? No doubt looking forward to more festivities tomorrow night. So what is everyone up to?

I am having a mini New Years Eve Eve party tonight. We decided (The we being my Mum, step-sister, cousin and two girlfriends) that New Years Eve is so difficult for many reasons: getting everyone together in the same place, the extortionate and inflated prices of everything from food to taxis and the high expectations / low enjoyment levels that are generally experienced on this night. So instead of battling against it all we came up with the genius idea of getting together for a girlie night the evening prior, it is a Friday after all, and I cannot wait for our evening to begin. We’re heading to a wonderful Italian restaurant, a new discovery with such friendly staff and a rather brilliant party atmosphere, followed by drinks at a local wine bar. It will be an absolute scream with so much laughter that I just know my sides will be hurting the next day, I am of course still celebrating NYE, I’ll be doing so at two house parties.

Whatever you do I hope you have fun.

For now I am leaving you with a round-up of real weddings from 2011, there’s been some absolute beauties, if you want to see ALL the real weddings that have featured on the blog just click here. Or you can use the menu at the top, you will find Real Weddings under the Love Stories category.

Real Wedding, DIY Wedding, Vintage Wedding, Wedding Photography, Quirky, Vintage, Retro, Boho, Boheme, 1920's, twenties, Creative, Red, white, blue, pink, green, orange, white wedding, bride and groom (3)

  • A Jonas Peterson Backyard Wedding ~ Mikey and Felicity Of course a Jonas Peterson wedding has to make it into any round-up really. If you haven’t heard of this man, let me introduce you to a legend of the wedding photography world, he is based in Australia but travels all over the world. This wedding was his two best friends getting married in their backyard. Another brilliant example of how simplicity, love and friendship is all you need to make a day beautiful.

Wedding Inspiration from Pocketful of Dreams

Image: Pick Me ~ I Pick You: Rustic Wedding Styling Inspiration
Christine Shields Photography via Pocketful of Dreams blog

Hello everyone,

This week Pocketful of Dreams blog is having a little holiday, but that doesn’t mean there’s nothing here for you to feast your eyes over. I have been so very busy blogging all sorts of pretty throughout the year, from real weddings to inspiration and ideas for your own wedding or stylish party.

Throughout this week I wanted to give you a few reminders of all the fabulousness you will find on the Pocketful of Dreams blog, today we’re talking Inspiration and this has got to be my favourite part of the blog. This is where I can really go to town with creative ideas and I absolutely adore putting together mood boards to give you that little snippet of an idea that may spark something to help you define your own style.

Mood boards are an excellent way to really help you define that vision you have in your head that words alone simply cannot convey, in the New Year I will be providing lots of advice on how you can create your own mood board so do pop back for that.

For now here are the links to some of my favourite ones:

Wedding Inspiration, Wedding Mood Board, Event Styling, Grey, Dark, Neutrals, Monochrome, Fade to Grey, Pocketful of Dreams, Event Planning and Design (1)

  • Winter Berry:  A sumptuous palette of winter white and reds for all those winter brides.
Wedding Inspiration, Mood Boards, Pocketful of Dreams, Gold, Golden, Gilt, Baroque, Elegant, Ornate, Wedding Styling, Ideas, Wedding Decor (2)
Violet & Blush, Inspiration Board, Mood Board, Wedding, Party, Style, Pink, Purple, Confetti
  • Violet and Blush Confetti Madness: I love mixing up unusual colour combinations and this is one such time when it works so very well. Blush is a wonderful nude colour which looks great with many things including black, but here I went with a regal purple and added in a little sparkle, just for fun.

There are so many, many more mood boards for you to feast your eyes over, it makes me very proud looking back over my collection. You will find ALL my mood boards here on the blog, or here on Facebook. For regular updates in your Facebook feed about the goings on at Pocketful of Dreams, simply hit the LIKE button here.

Pinterest is also an excellent resource to help you build your own online mood board, you simply install the Pin It bookmarklet onto your browser, then every time you see something online that you love simply pin it to your account. You can follow all my pinning on the Pocketful of Dreams Pinterest page here.

During 2012 I will continue to create more mood boards every week to inspire your style. I would love to hear from my stylish and creative readers though about the ideas you have in mind for your day, be it a specific colour, style or simply a love for something like teacups and peacocks then please do tell me in the comments below and I will create a mood board especially for you. If you’d prefer not to give away any secrets surrounding your big day email me at michelle@pocketfulofdreams.co.uk.

Wedding Planning Advice and Resources from Pocketful of Dreams

Hello everyone,

I hope you have had the most fabulous Christmas full of fun, feasting and merriment. Maybe you got engaged? If you did huge congratulations, I want to hear all about it.

There seems to be something in the air at Christmas time, maybe it’s all that mulled wine, but it’s definitely a time for love and I know so many couples who have gotten engaged at this time of year.

So in the interests of sharing, for that is what the Pocketful of Dreams blog is all about, I thought I would give you a little reminder of all the wedding and event planning advice articles you will find on the blog, to help make that day fabulous and hopefully stress-free.

If you’re a new reader to the blog, Welcome, it’s wonderful to have you here. I’m Michelle and I am an event designer and planner, my focus is to help you define your own style so your wedding day or party is infused with your personality and full of personal details. I can help you to create a design for the day to give you that helping hand to get started or I can guide you through the entire planning process managing every last detail. What I always promise is to give you and your guests a magical experience.

Planning Advice and Resources

  • So if you’re new to this and don’t have a clue what to do first, have a read of this Wedding Planning ~ Where to start? with snippets of advice about how to create your vision, budgeting and using professional suppliers to help you create your dream day.

  • If you’re just staring to look around the web and in magazines for inspiration you will no doubt see a lot of vintage-inspired wedding styles as well as many others from glamorous to rustic-chic, laid-back to decadent, whatever style you choose I have one piece of advice, BE YOURSELF. Choose a style that reflects you and your life, you don’t have to follow trends just be inspired by everything you see around you, even a mish-mash of styles works, it’s whats important to you that matters. Here’s a few of my thoughts on the Vintage trend. Is the ‘Vintage’ trend really dead, and do you really care?

  • Nowadays as well you’re not restricted to one type of venue, there are a whole host of unique and quirky venues you can choose from village halls to industrial units, country house hotels to tipi tents, marquees to country pubs, and not forgetting your own backyard. Whilst you can’t legally marry outside in the UK currently there are ways around this and I talk about a few here Backyard Weddings ~ Where to Buy and How to DIY
  • One key piece of advice for couples planning their day is to give themselves enough time together to take in and savour the moment, Laura Babb wrote a lovely piece about this here Wedding Planning: Stop and smell the flowers ~ A guest post by Laura Babb
jon-and-charlotte057, Laura Babb photography, real wedding, bride and groom, Wedding Planning, Planning Advice, Wedding Planning Resources, Wedding Photography, Wedding Cake, How-to, Wedding Stationery, Party Planning, Wedding Trends, Engagement Shoot, First Look

So lots and lots of advice to help get you started, with so much more to come throughout 2012 please do call back here and tell us all about your plans, maybe you have a burning question and could do with some advice.

We love to talk and share ideas here on Pocketful of Dreams so please do get posting your comments in the box below.

Merry Christmas, Christmas Photography, Christmas Baubles

I hope you have a wonderful day filled with joy, love and laughter.

I will be spending the day with my family, eating lots of delicious food (that’s if my first attempt at cooking for 16 people goes okay) and having plenty of fun with our tradition of games after dinner.

Pocketful of Dreams will be back in full force on the 2nd January, in the meantime you will find the odd post here and there to remind you of all the wonderful content from 2011.

Merry Christmas.

Free Tickets to White Memoirs Vintage Wedding Fair ~ Stockport

Hello boys and girls, It’s Friday and it’s nearly Christmas, wahoo.

I wanted to quickly tell you today about a fabulous event taking place in the North West early next year and an offer for my readers to get in for free (See below).

Now then, anyone who knows me will know I have a little bit of an aversion to the typical ‘Wedding Fair’. You know the type I mean, soul-less atmosphere, pushy salespeople doling out tired portfolio’s of work from the nineties, boring supplier stands ~ yes these fairs do exist up and down the Country and my advice is always avoid, avoid, avoid.

So when someone steps out of this mould and tries to create something new, exciting and totally unique then they have my backing all the way.

The White Memoirs Vintage Wedding Fair is exactly that,  offering a complete vintage experience for brides, the fair is launching Sunday 5th February at Stockport Town Hall. Created by Rachael of Social Butterfly Events and PR who is incredibly passionate about this event being full of things you brides won’t have seen before or will find on the high street.

Rachael said “There is something wonderfully romantic about “vintage”. Vintage paints a portrait of sheer elegance, nostalgia and memories. Vintage is about culture, it’s about reliving a period that you may have missed the first time round. Whether you lust over the boundary-pushing hemlines of the roaring 20’s, adore the decade of 50’s femininity or perhaps are wowed by the angelic, free-flowing spirit of the 70’s, attending the White Memoirs vintage wedding fair will give you all the inspiration and ideas you need to create your authentically themed wedding”.

And it promises to be a really interesting day out with fascinator workshops, live beauty demos and a burlesque, jazz performer!  Featuring many rather talented, independent creative wedding folk including:

Fine Food and Fine Friends ~ A Festive Tweet-Up

Morning everyone,

And how are you today? Suffering a hangover from a Christmas party, feeling bloated after one-too-many mince pies? Yesterday was the former for me as I attended a Christmas tweet-up organised by my lovely friend Katy Lunsford.

This was a chance for all us local, self-employed wedding-industry types who regularly get together to network, to have a Christmas bash of our own and celebrate the years achievements ~ and it was such a blast. These are the kind of networking events that stick two fingers up at that old corporate world I know and they really are what networking is all about. Forming real bonds with likeminded passionate and creative people, I feel so lucky to be able to say I have formed plenty of those this year and made a lot of really great friends along the way.

Christmas Party Ideas, Christmas Party Planning, How-to Plan a Party, New Years Party, Party Food and Drink, Party Ideas, Party Invitations, Party Planning Advice, Party Styling Tips, Party Theme, Red and White Christmas, Seasonal Party, Winter party (1)

I love the fact we can chat for hours on end about ‘business’ and not bore each other to death, but it’s not all work, work, work, we also have a genuinely great time and Tuesday night was less-business more silly chatter over quite a few wines, and yes the chatter got sillier as more wine was consumed.

The evening started off with dinner at Rhubarb ~ an intimate, independent restaurant right in the heart of Didsbury Manchester, such a fantastic little place with amazing food and friendly, attentive staff. One I would highly recommend to anyone ~ and I am a little bit of a food snob. I usually find a Christmas menu to be a little lacklustre, with little imagination given to the menu but this one had plenty of inspired choice and not a turkey in sight! We leisurely enjoyed our three-course dinner as we chatted about business and life, our dreams and ambitions, and excitedly shared our plans for the coming year.

When there are so many people at an event like this it can be difficult to get around everyone, particularly for someone like me who can be a little shy at first, but I think we managed it well with plenty of table-hopping going on, I know I missed some people so please come say hi at the next one. Next time I vote for a chair-swap after every course to really help us mingle the night away.

Dinner was followed by a few cheeky drinks, on a school night too! Naughty.

It was amazing fun but I’ve been a rather rubbish blogger and taken erm zero pictures from the night. How crap am I?

So instead I have these lovely images of people partying and generally enjoying life, for isn’t this what it’s all about?

I also wanted to give a shout-out to some of the lovely people who I have connected with through the tweet-ups, each and every one is fab in their own right and people I would highly recommend in a heartbeat….

  • Katy Lunsford - North-west based Wedding Photographer and all round lovely lady, my partner in crime for all things craft this year (More on that in the New Year) and mum to the gorgeous and rather grown-up nearly two-year old Sophie. Follow on Twitter @katylunsford
  • Rebecca of Florence Finds ~ Rebecca is a gorgeous girly who always has a warm smile and interesting conversation. She writes a fab lifestyle blog for girls like you and me. Go visit you won’t be disappointed. @FlorenceFinds
  • Katy of Perfect Days Vintage ~ A vintage style and hire service in the North West, Katy always has me howling in laughter whenever we meet, a genuinely wonderful lady with some of the best vintage crockery and props available. @PerfectDaysVint
  • Nicola of Silver Sixpence in her Shoe ~ I was lucky enough to meet Nicola when I first stepped into this world, such a clever and creative young woman, we’ve remained firm friends. She creates really pretty bespoke handmade accessories for brides, adorned with vintage pieces and old lace lovingly restored. @SilverSixpence1
  • Lucy at The Wedding Shop in Alderley Edge, Lucy just ‘gets it’, she knows what women want and she knows how to make her customer feel special, striving to give every one that wonderful, attentive experience they have always dreamed of when searching for The Dress, if/when I ever do venture down the aisle she will be my first port of call.  @_TheWeddingShop
  • Joanne from Vintage Twee offers a really personalised service for brides custom-making stationery, table decor and favours from vintage materials. @VintageTwee
  • I also met Nicola Thompson last night, another fab photographer who I can’t wait to get to know better @photolovebee
  • I didn’t talk nearly enough as I’d liked to Rachael of Social Butterfly Events and PR, one hell of a stylish lady who is making her mark in wedding world with something crazy unique, just my kind of thing (More on that tomorrow). @White_MemoirsUK
  • and finally the Irish charmer Aisling of Keep Calm and Marry On (Fab name huh?), this lady has a constant smile on her face and could probably sell snow to eskimos she’s that warm and friendly. A fellow wedding planner who I really should be throwing darts at being competition and all, but alas I like her too much. @keepcalmmarryon

I hope whatever you are doing this week you are feeling relaxed, happy and looking forward to a joyous Christmas with your nearest and dearest.

Bridal Inspiration: Winter Berry {Red Winter Wedding Ideas}

Hello everyone,

Today I am sharing another Bridal Inspiration Board which has recently been published on Love My Dress wedding blog, this one is a real classic winter style…..

WINTER BERRY

A really seasonal palette than a rather festive red and white. Well it’s not strictly white, I’m suggesting more a winter white which is a soft creamy colour and much less harsh.

This palette is fabulous mixed with all the neutrals, think natural hessian, burnished brown and slate grey. Even black works well, although this makes the look more dramatic than romantic in my opinion.

~ For full post and plenty of styling inspiration and tips see here.

A Windy Engagement Shoot in Liverpool

Well boys and girls I have a rather lovely an engagement shoot to share with you today but before I do I wanted to let you know what’s happening over here on Pocketful of Dreams during the festive season.

I am going to be posting every day this week, however you’ll find more of a seasonal mix of content towards the end of the week, rather than the usual wedding or crafting focus. For the simple reason that Christmas fever has taken over my brain and I can think of little other than turkey, mince pies and mulled wine. I’m pretty certain you’ll be feeling the same, and if not I’m sure you’re certainly busy putting those last minute plans in place for a super-duper Christmas.

Next week I’m having a little bloggy holiday, I am posting a little bit, but not a lot. Oh I do amuse myself. I’ll be having a wonderful break full of laughter, good times and lots of food, all in the company of my family so it’s time to step away from the laptop a little and enjoy this time with the people who mean the most to me in the world. BUT that doesn’t mean I am neglecting you dear readers, oh no, I will also be busy putting the finishing touches to what I am calling Super-January, for during super-january I’ll be blowing those toasty-warm arran socks right off your feet, oh yes I will. So make sure you keep on coming back to Pocketful of Dreams to see what I have in store for you.

Now for some lovin’….

Meet Clare and Robert, a rather loved up couple who were caught on camera by Scarlett Weddings Photography one windy day in Liverpool…..

“We photographed them in Liverpool City Centre, close to where their wedding would be in Hope Street. It was a very windy day which added a little windswept glamour to a chilly day. Clare & Rob chose us as their wedding photographers as they felt it was a sign because their little daughter is called Scarlett! The two of them met after Robert had secretly admired Clare from afar and he plucked up the courage to ask her out, waiting for her one day as she came out of work. A lovely traditional romantic tale in these fast paced online times. They clearly adore each other, we loved photographing them, they were so natural together”

Help Me Create The Ultimate Party Playlist: {Please Don’t Stop the Music}

Wedding Dance, Weddig Playlist, First Dance Song, Party Songs (1)

If there’s one thing that makes a party go off with a bang then it has to be the music. A great playlist just has to have the right mix of tunes to take you from that tentative first drink and polite conversation to dancing the night away with obligatory hand in the air, of course alcohol does help take you from step A to step B.

But the music is a must and will make or break any party. I will admit to having a rather eclectic and varied taste in music, I’m not a fan of one particular type and love everything from Prince to pop, funk to jazz, as long as its soulful and makes you feel good I usually like it. One thing I’m not is a music snob, or someone who claims to know anything about the latest bands, next-big-thing or the coolest kids on the block that really should be on my iPod.

Wedding Dance, Weddig Playlist, First Dance Song, Party Songs (3)

Image Credit: We are the Bloggers

No, I’m a little bit past-it when it comes to party tunes, I am still stuck in the early noughties with my love of funky house and old-school retro beats with a rather random mix of Hed Kandi, Prince, En Vogue, George Michael, Lady Gaga and Madonna filling my iTunes library.

I think I need a music education.

So I am turning to you my dear Pocketful of Dreams readers to inspire me with your music tastes, or simply remind me of those amazing tunes that have long been forgotten.

I want to create the Ultimate Party Playlist so I am asking you to please share your top party tunes with me, you can leave the details in the comments box below, simply tweet me your tunes or you can go the whole hog and drop them into this Spotify Ultimate Party Playlist that I’ve started compiling. I’ve made this a collaborative playlist which means anyone can subscribe and anyone can add to it.
