A fun wedding on the Italian Riviera ~ Elisa and Marco {Part 1}

Today folks I have another amazing Italian wedding to share by world-renowned photographer Julian Kanz, and yes I must admit I am rather drawn to these right now as my thoughts are consumed by all things Italiano. I may, just MAY be taking a little trip to Italy this year, wahoo, yes that would be me dancing around the room. I have always wanted to travel to Italy and explore this romantic and scenic country and now my dreams may be coming true.

There is something really fun and cool about Elisa and Marco who met in Ventimiglia when they were just teenagers. Elisa told me they fell in love in Milan during University and were married last July after 11 years together!

You will find {Part 1} here of their preparations, which looked so relaxed and full of fun, through to their lovely church ceremony. My favourite image here has got to be the little pooch wearing pearls…adorable.

Bridal Inspiration Boards: Featured on Love My Dress

Gooooood morning world,

And how are we on this fine morning? I am super-excited about the week ahead, it’s going to be a rather epic one in terms of busy-ness but I am absolutely relishing the challenge of what lies ahead of me. As well as my usual schedule of blogging pretty things and planning gorgeous events I will also be putting the finishing touches to a photoshoot that has been in the planning for quite some time.

When I first dipped my toe into the world of event styling I knew without a doubt that I wanted to get involved in a really creative project, one which would show the world what I can do in terms of styling and one that would push me to be innovative, to be brave with design and to feed the caged artist inside of me. This shoot is doing all of that, it may have taken a long time to come to fruition but I could not be happier with what we have planned. The team of collaborators I am working with who have literally blown me away with their ideas.

I will be reporting back on the entire shoot very soon, including all those wonderful people who are helping to make it happen, as well as sharing the images with you once they are in the can, and hopefully looking a-mazing.

Photoshoots take a LOT of organising, lucky for me then that I am super-organised, but the only way I can be is to have the time and headspace to focus on what needs to happen. So while I am busy prepping and double-checking everything is in place this week things may be a little quieter over here on the blog….that doesn’t mean to say you haven’t got plenty of wedding fabulousness coming your way, oh no you are still getting a pretty post every day. It just means I’m not around as much to reply to comments, answer emails and tweets….but I promise I will reply next week.

Today I wanted to share with you a few of my recent bridal inspiration boards which have appeared over on Love My Dress blog. Annabel, the blog’s creator is a fantastic lady who I am so thrilled to work with on a regular basis and recently I created two mood board concepts to inspire her readers, I hope they inspire you too.

The Longest Day

For those brides dreaming of a relaxed, outdoor celebration have a flick through my The Longest Day concept. Inspired by the  1920′s jazz age and The Great Gatsby. Rather than go for decadent, booze-filled and raucous twenties inspiration, I chose a much softer daytime style, perfectly suited to an outdoor picnic wedding.

See the Love My Dress post for all the info on how you can achieve this style.

All You Need Is Love

Valentines Day may be just a distant memory now but the inspiration I created for Love My Dress for the day of love still stands. It’s this combination of vibrant pink and red that just gets me every time, love, love, love it. Hope you do too….
Have a wonderful day folks.

The Vintage Wedding Show Scotland ~ Sunday 4th March: 5 free tickets up for grabs

Hello folks,

I am super excited to tell you about a new vintage wedding show to hit the scene all the way up in bonny Scotland. Perfect for brides looking for a more relaxed, quirky and distinctly vintage style for their day.

Vintage Wedding Show, Wedding Show Scotland, Wedding Show Edinburgh, Vintage Weddings (1)

The Vintage Wedding Show showcases wedding suppliers who appreciate the love, glamour  and style of vintage.  They are true experts in their field: from beautiful original bridal gowns from the 1930s through to stunning vintage-inspired designer-made dresses;  from gorgeous costume jewels and accessories to original flower bouquets oozing with the romance of days gone by;  these exhibitors just love the timeless elegance of yesteryear.

The Vintage Wedding Show organiser, Mel Jarron was just such a bride: “When I married I just wanted to fall in love again to the live sound of a swing band and to do something different from what all my friends were doing.  But I really struggled to source vintage pieces to bring that special and glamorous twist to my wedding.  Having found local suppliers who can put that swing back in, I just want couples to be inspired by the unusual and the beautiful, as I was, and to have truly unique weddings.”

“Whether it is a simple dip into vintage for your big day with old fashioned china, or whether you want to go the whole hog, everything is going to be under one roof at this show. Photography, cakes, flowers, hair and make-up, crockery hire, event planners, dresses, jewellery, accessories and even cars!  There will be live music all day and a (G&) tea party for refreshments.”

Vintage Wedding Show, Wedding Show Scotland, Wedding Show Edinburgh, Vintage Weddings (2)

Mel has been involved in organising large events for ten years.  Fashion shows, film previews and speed dating events are all under her belt with her online membership business, Scene Scotland (formerly The Silver Card). Eight years ago, she set up her beloved Funk Fair, a vintage fair and makers market which runs in Edinburgh and more recently, Dundee with an avid and loyal following of vintage friends.

The Vintage Wedding Show is on Sunday 4th March at stunning wedding venue, Mansfield Traquair.  Running in conjunction with Edinburgh’s award-winning hospitality whiz kids Heritage Portfolio, this unique wedding fair promises to entertain and most importantly inspire all wedding couples looking for something beyond the norm.

Guest Post: Alternative Hen Party Ideas

Good afternoon folks,

Now then, regular followers of Pocketful of Dreams will know I have a little bit of an aversion to the tacky hen party, you know the one I’m talking about, and although it may be a little bit if a guilty pleasure, (ie you secretly really enjoy it once you’re there) there are other, much more sophisticated ways to celebrate those last few weeks as a single Miss.

So today folks the lovely Jessica of Redseven is going to talk to you about a few fabulous hen party ideas that combine both style and fun…..

♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦

What type of hen are you?

When it comes to choosing what to do for your hen party it can be a daunting task as it’s likely you’ll have never arranged one before. It can be difficult if you’ve no idea what’s out there, and even if you do know, you may not be able to decide with so many choices to choose from.

The trick is to have a think about what type of person you are. Do you like staying in on a Saturday night with a glass of wine and a film, or do you instead like a bit of a party? You might be the type of person that loves adventure, always looking for a chance to get involved in something active, or simply looking for something different from the norm.

Once you know what type of hen you are, then all you need is a little inspiration on some hen party ideas.

Adventurous Hen

If you enjoy an adrenalin rush then there’s no reason why you shouldn’t plan an activity into your weekend. Don’t worry if there are friends in the group that you’re not sure if they’re going to enjoy activities, after all, it’s your weekend and they’ll do their best to make sure you are happy.

There is an endless choice of activities you can get involved in including very active ideas like paintballing and quad biking, to more feminine ideas such as horse riding which still gives you the opportunity to be adventurous. You will truly deserve a few drinks after any one of these!

Laid back Hen

If your idea of the perfect hen weekend is chilling out, simply spending quality time with your friends then there are plenty of hen party ideas which allow you to do so whilst still feeling like you have done something memorable.

Choosing a spa day or weekend is ideal as you’ll get to truly pamper yourself whilst catching up with the girls. By the end of the weekend, you’ll feel so revived that you’ll be more than ready for the big day.

Alternatively, you might want to enjoy afternoon tea somewhere really special like The Ritz Hotel on a London hen weekend with your friends catching up over a lovely cup of Earl Grey and filling up on delicious sandwiches, pastries and cakes. Perfectly chilled!

Alternative Hen

Looking for something different doesn’t necessarily mean you want to hurl yourself down a hill in a giant ball (yes this does exist, it’s called zorbing and it’s probably for the more adventurous category!).

Why not try something like a nude life drawing class? It’s definitely alternative and is guaranteed to give you and the girls a laugh!

Otherwise, try something a bit more sophisticated but still different with a chocolate making session where you’ll get to learn how it’s made whilst also nibbling on them along the way. This is an all-rounder – who doesn’t love chocolate?!

The biggest tip we have for you is to be true to yourself. There’s always something out there to cater for the type of person you are; it’s simply a matter of finding out what’s on offer. In the end your friends will be happy to do what will make you happy.

Redseven are award-winning stag and hen party planners, they believe in offering diverse, unconventional and innovative ideas to help you create a legendary send-off. To find out more about their hen party ideas please do hop on over to their website

Dream Idea: Illustrative Moments ~ Bridal Fashion Illustration

Good morning folks,

And how are we today?

I wanted to introduce you to this brilliant new concept called Illustrative Moments from across the pond in the USA as I just love it, creating your own work of art by having an original fashion illustration created of you in your gown, perfectly capturing the very essence of elegance and beauty.

Illustrative Moments, Bridal Fashion, Fashion Illustration, Bridal Keepsake, Wedding Keepsake, Anniversary Gift, Paper Anniversary Idea (1)

Creator of  Illustrative Moments Debi told me more….“After 13 years of working in couture bridal and sketching for clients and bridal publications I have decided to make this modern keepsake available to every bride.

Illustrative Moments takes a fashionable memory and turns it into a timeless piece of art and the new go-to gift even more so the ULTIMATE first anniversary gift of paper. Perfect for any occasion- Bridal shower, Wedding, Anniversary, Valentines, Birthday, Christmas, or just because. I have even had requests for bridal party and mother of the bride portraits as well which makes for a very thoughtful gift from the bride. If it is a gift given before the big day I have been successful in working with tear sheets of the wedding gown and pictures of the bride to-be with notes on hair styles and jewellery since most brides cannot keep their big day glam a secret from their friends. Gift Certificates are also available as well as optional custom work such as illustrations for paper goods etc.

Illustrative Moments, Bridal Fashion, Fashion Illustration, Bridal Keepsake, Wedding Keepsake, Anniversary Gift, Paper Anniversary Idea (2)

The illustration is rendered in a high fashion style that will take on characteristics such as hair color/style and jewelry but is not meant to be an exact portrait. The chosen pose is decided by the dress and all highlighted details creating a flattering composition.

Each piece is done with much attention to detail and is created in colored pencil, colored marker, ink, and metallic pens and placed in a silk white mat with backer board ready to frame inside a clear sleeve”.

Dream Team: Welcoming Leo Bojesen Wedding Photography

Good afternoon folks,

It’s time for me to introduce you to another creative mastermind who has made it into my Dream Team. As many of you who follow Pocketful of Dreams will know, only the very best make it into my Dream Team. These are the people who I believe have that creative edge and spark of brilliance when it comes to their craft, Leo Bojesen is one of those people. A wedding photographer, originally from Sweden and now residing in Sheffield, Leo specialises in weddings, engagements and lifestyle serving the Yorkshire area and UK.

♦  ♦  ♦

Leo (that would be him pictured below) told me all about his passion for photography and why he believes in capturing memories in a moment…..

When people meet me or listen to my voice, one of the first things they ask is where are you from? To keep it short, I’m born in Sweden, grew up in Ohio, USA, moved back to Sweden and now I’m in the UK. I might not necessarily speak with the Yorkshire dialect but have picked up a few sayings, such as, “Hiya, you doin’ alwight.” I’d like to think of myself as a happy go-lucky type of guy. I love to see new places and meet new people. Which makes wedding photography such an enjoyment for me.

Why did you become a wedding photographer?

I have always had an interest in art. My mom actually wanted me to go to university to study art. However, when I went to university I decided to study science. The love of creating pictures has always been a part of me. I’ve been into photography for the past eight years and instead of drawing on a regular basis, I now create pictures using a camera. On a wedding day, there’s a great variety of photography that goes on from macro to landscape to portraits while thinking on your feet which gives me a buzz.

Who / what would you say has been instrumental in your success?

I really like the quote, ‘Wherever you go, no matter what the weather, always bring your own sunshine’ – A. J. D’Angelo People enjoy to surround themselves with positive people. It boosts them up. If I can do that, I feel successful.

Who / what inspires you?

I get inspired from movies, fashion and travel magazines as well as travelling. Seeing new places is a great way to open the mind. I love new adventures. One needs to also keep up on what others are doing in the photography world. So many people nowadays like to share what they do to help everyone reach new heights. When I meet couples, sometimes one of them are very keen on photography. They like to ask questions and I don’t mind to share. There’s the saying that “a rising tide lifts all boats”. It definitely rings true for the photography industry.

Do you have a particular style and can you describe it for us?

My style is a natural timeless imagery that can endure for many decades without looking dated. I like imagery that is bright, colourful and fun.

What is the most challenging thing about photographing weddings?

The most challenging part is making sure that I don’t miss any key event. I need to know the timeline of the day. I’m usually pumped up with adrenaline, being attentive and yet also keeping a calm disposition.

and the best part of it?

The best part is feeling the genuine care that everyone has for each other throughout the day. I love seeing how the couple’s wedding plans have come together, what items they’ve chosen to represent them and what new ideas they’ve come up with that I have not seen before.

What advice would you give to couples when choosing a wedding photographer?

What should a couple be asking their photographer? My advice to a couple is to find someone that shares your vision of your wedding. Couples like to meet in person or via Skype to see if the photographer is a good match for them. You can see the personality of the photographers and know if you like them.  Another item is discussing family portraits. Some couples like a long list of portraits to be made and if that’s the case, ask the photographer if he/she is okay with that. Some photographers like to do only a few family portraits so the couple can get on with the rest of their day.  Having the same vision of the day is crucial.

A little explanation of the wedding photo above….“This wedding took place just outside of Sorrento, Italy. As the bride gets ready in the morning for a few hours, I ask the bride’s brother what he’ll be doing. He said, he’s going to the beach. I turn to the groom, “what will you be doing?” “I don’t know,” he replied. I swiftly responded, “well, I’m going to the beach with the bride’s brother for a little bit so if you want to come, you’re more than welcome.” Let’s just say it didn’t take much convincing for him to come along. We had a fun time together and this is one of the shots in the water with the Pompeii volcano in the background. The groom said with a smile, “as she’s beautifying herself, I’m beautifying my skin with the sea salt treatment.” That made me laugh out loud. Sometimes you never know what will happen on a wedding day.”

How do you ensure the images you capture are what the couple wants from their day?

Open and specific communication is the key. The couples come to me since they feel that I can capture their day as intended. They’ve seen my photo gallery and liked my style. If there are any particular images they want to be taken, I ask them well in advance so that I can meet that expectation.

What are your thoughts on the wedding industry and how has it changed / how will it change in the future?

The wedding industry has shifted to a more relaxed approach. Instead of cookie cutter type of weddings, more couples are seeking to create a unique day that represents them. We see some  couples wearing sneakers, suits instead of tuxedos or even no suit jacket but just a vest. Dresses have changed to different textures and colours and styles to make things more personalized. I like it when couples add special details to exhibit who they are. From vinyl LPs, sports equipment, knick-knacks and fashion stuff makes it a one of a kind wedding. That’s something I love! We see now that weddings are held in unique places such as in a barn or library. Some do what’s called a “first look.” Before the ceremony, the couple will actually meet, looking at each for the first time dressed in that gorgeous gown and awesome groom outfit. I get to capture that moment. It’s one of the few alone times they have together on the day.  A lot times, after the ceremony there will be a demand on the couples attention and having family photos and so on. The first look though is a moment of personalized magic that more and more couples are taking advantage of.

Whose wedding (past, present or future) would be your dream wedding to photograph?

I would simply love to photograph a couple who feel comfortable in their skin and want to have a fun day celebrating their union. And if that were to take place in the Cayman Islands, Tuscany or Bali, for a destination wedding, that would be so much fun.

Who would you love to work/collaborate with and why? Do you have any plans to make this happen?

I would like to colloaborate with more stylists and wedding planners. There’s some incredible wedding planners out there with different styles. One would be Mark Niemierko for the exquisite details of the wedding. There’s another wedding planner based in the States that is amazing, the one and only Michael Russo. I would like to collaborate with Richard from FXfilms and we are planning on putting together a project together this year. I’m really looking forward to it. I hope to also collaborate on a few styled shoots.

Can you share with us a sneak-peak exclusive of future plans for your business / goals for this year?

As technology progresses, we need to adapt. One thought is to move away from discs and advance onto USB devices for images to be delivered and digital downloads. I will soon add a YouTube channel to share little video clips of what I’m up to and give some advice. (If there are any particular things you would like me to share, let me know and let’s see if I can make a short video on it.)

When you are not photographing weddings what are you doing?

I really like food and enjoy cooking up new recipes. Especially Mexican dishes.  I love day trips. I enjoy reading about science and health. I have five brothers and sisters which I keep regular contact with. They are a lot of fun. I volunteer a portion of my time to different causes. I think it’s important to give back to the community and be a force for good.

What is your ultimate dream in life?

My dream is to be successful in my career, happily married and to create fun memories along the way in this journey we call life. I believe that true success is the optimal balance of five core values: Faith, Family, Friends, Fitness, and Finances. I think that’s a simple dream, easier said than done, but a great one to focus on.

DIY Project: How to craft a Butterfly Gift Box {Featured on Love My Dress}

I am so thrilled to say another one of my craft projects has appeared on Love My Dress blog recently.

For those who missed it, it’s one I had been dying to put together as I have seen so many fab projects using paint swatches to create something really distinctive and pretty. So I was determined to one day make something using these little beauties.

I came up with the idea of using paint swatches and a butterfly hole punch to create a really pretty ombre colour effect, using the butterfly’s to decorate a gift box.

This idea is perfect for favour boxes or to give out your cupcakes or a slice of wedding cake to your guests in. They could also be a creative little birthday gift box for your loved ones too.

A vintage military wedding with a trip to Narnia ~ Amy and Lee {Part 2}

So if you caught {Part 1} of today’s wedding earlier today I am pretty sure you will have been mesmerised by the gorgeously decadent midnight blue flowers and bridesmaids dresses, the brides stunning lace dress and bolero jacket, not to mention the Groom Lee’s dapper military uniform.

There is so much to inspire you fro this wedding and I’m so excited to show you this image of Amy and Lee’s trip into Narnia, an absolutely stunning area of the venue Samlesbury Hall dresses with trees and fairy lights to create a magical fantasy land.

Amy tells us more about her perfect day…..

“On a work trip to London I found some commemorative postcards, from the royal wedding, in paperchase and thought that they would go well with our colour scheme and the military feel so I bought them all and our stationary designer (Catherine Alton) was happy to use them to back our table numbers.

After the ceremony our guests moved into the parlour for the reception, we didn’t have flowers in this room instead the venue had put up a Christmas tree and covered the window ledges with church candles. To add to the wintry/Christmas feel my nana took clippings of holly and ivy from her garden gave them to Angela (Samlesbury Hall wedding coordinator) who placed them around the parlour room between the candles, the clipping and the candles all went really well with our choice of flowers and the time of year and didn’t cost a thing!!

I wasn’t really bothered about having favours but my mum loves to make things and is very creative and so she offered to make the favour boxes. I’m so glad she did as they were beautiful and matched perfectly with our stationary. She bought the boxes, ribbon and diamante buckles off the internet and patiently handmade each and everyone. When I saw them finished I couldn’t believe how perfectly they matched everything and I was so glad she had taken the time to make them.

My mum and I loved planning the wedding together, I had a clear idea of what I wanted and my mum has an eye for details so together we made a great team. I honestly enjoyed every aspect of planning my wedding but most of all I loved going to wedding fairs, in particular the vintage wedding fair in Harrogate. I got loads of ideas from seeing the stalls set up; people that are in the wedding business are so creative I took my inspiration from their ideas.

Having the Guard of honour was really special, not many of our guests had ever been to a military wedding and it is very impressive. As I walked into the ceremony room theirs were the first faces I saw smiling back at me which made me smile. After we were married and we were walking down the isle they did a salute and we walked underneath their swords, the photos were fantastic and it was a really proud moment for each of them.

My Dad’s speech was unexpected and hilarious; although he is a very confident person I didn’t expect him to sing his speech! He sang his speech to the tune of kay sera sera and luckily everyone joined in at the chorus. Lee and I laughed the whole way through and it was all our guests talked about for the rest of the night. He had managed to set the scene for the rest of the evening as everyone was laughing and joking together late into the night.

Looking back now I think the two things that impressed me the most on the day were our Flowers and our photographer, Charlotte Boothman at LottieDesigns. The flowers used were absolutely perfect for the style of our wedding and the way the ceremony/reception hall was decorated was even better than I had imagined. Jane and the team at Flowerdesign are so creative and the decorations and bouquets were beautiful, they even snuck a little bit of mistletoe in my bouquet as a surprise.

There was so much to see and take in on the day; I didn’t want to miss a thing. But we with 102 guests there were a lot of people to speak to and thank so it was difficult to take the time to take it all in. I needn’t have worried as lottie captured every precious moment through her photos, all the detail of the venue, flowers and dresses to every smile and tear on our faces. As we look back through the hundreds of photos she took we can remember the day exactly, her photos are like a story book from getting ready with my mum and bridesmaids in the morning, dancing around with a glass of champagne in my pj’s to some very tipsy looking faces on the dance floor at the end.

My advice to other couples would be to try to incorporate as much of your personalities into your wedding as you can, Lee served in the Army for 10 years and we wanted this to be part of our day, our wedding was his last day in uniform and it was the perfect end to his army career.

Also think about the entertainment, we wanted to keep it light hearted as our families and friends love to have a laugh and sing and dance. So from the pianist to the DJ and the ghost stories to the speeches, there was plenty going on for all ages and the party flowed from day to night without any awkward quiet periods.

Utilise your friends talents, my friend is a hair dresser, Emma-Louise owner of Head Turners – Blackburn, Lancashire, she knew the type of look I was wanting for myself and my bridesmaids and she designed the hairstyles for our special day. One of my bridesmaids, Paula Turner – Lush Nails Blackburn Lancashire, is a nail artist and she did my nails, toes, eyebrows and lashes and sourced a make-up artist for myself and my bridesmaids. Very useful wedding gifts!

Music has always been important to me and Lee, we have been to many different gigs and festivals together so when we were looking for a DJ we wanted to be able to discuss the types of music we like and have some input in the play list. When we found Dancefloor couture we knew they were the right company for our wedding. We sat down with one of their representatives and he talked us through our wedding account, we had the ability to login online and list our favourite songs and artists, and more importantly highlight the music we don’t like, to make sure the music that means something to us and our friends and family is included on the play list. The system worked well as the dance floor was full from the moment the DJ started till the very end.

I wasn’t keen on favours at first, they seemed very costly and I couldn’t think of anything special to give our guests as a memento. Military tradition (or so I’m told) is to make a toast with a glass of port, so our first idea was to give each guest a miniature bottle of port. This would have been very costly and so we finally decided to give charity pin badges as our favours. The men were given help for hero pins and the ladies were given breast cancer awareness pins. I liked the idea that by giving our guest a gift we were also donating to charity and so we chose the two charities closest to our hearts.

ALL THE DETAILS
  • Photographer – Lottie Designs, Lancashire
  • VenueSamlesbury Hall in Preston, Lancashire.
  • Bridal DressForever Yours from The Bridal Room in Castleford, the dress was originally a strapless dress; the alterations were made by Tie the Knot in Blackburn, Lancashire. The lace bolero jacket I wore was also by Forever Yours, it originally had long bell sleeves which I had altered into short cap sleeves by Wendy at Tie the Knot.
  • Bridal ShoesRainbow Couture from Dan Kerr bridal shop in Blackburn, Lancashire. I also bought some wedding wellies from weddingtonboots.com, in case it was bad weather.
  • Bridal Jewellery – Earrings Cath Kidston, Bracelet Monsoon. Headband by Swarovski from PJ Harley’s in Preston, Lancashire and the pearl and diamante pins in the back of my hair were from Tie the Knot bridal shop in Blackburn, Lancashire.
  • Grooms Uniform – Lee rented his number one’s military dress from Hamilton’s textiles Taylor’s – Camberley, Surrey.
  • Bridesmaid outfits – Dresses were by Dessy in midnight blue from Orchid Design in Clitheroe, Lancashire. Their metallic grey and diamante sandals were by Debut at Debenhams and their silver and pearl earrings were from Avon.
  • Stationery – The wedding stationery was by Catherine Alton at Sapphire Stationery, she designed our seating plan, invitations, menu’s, name plates and wedding card post box, the frame used for the seating plan was taken from a mirror I bought from The Range. The favour boxes were designed and created by my mum with materials she sourced from the internet and our guest book was a gift from my nana which she had made by www.notonthehighstreet.com. The table numbers were backed on union jack heart postcards which I found in Paperchase.
  • Floral designer – Our flowers were by Flower Design in Blackpool, Jane and the team used many different flowers, herbs and foliage in our arrangements which gave off a beautiful sent of lavender, eucalyptus, thyme and rosemary. This was then complimented by the smell of pine needles from the Christmas Trees in both entrance halls which were supplied by Samlesbury Hall. Flower Design used hurricane lamps, candelabras, mirrors and a number of unique cut crystal ornaments and glasses to dress the ceremony and reception rooms to give the whole wedding an authentic vintage feel. We also rented the steel lanterns from them which framed the doors of the main entrance. They also came to Lee’s rescue with ribbons for his car, as a mini enthusiast Lee wanted to incorporate our Mini Cooper as a wedding car. He dressed the car with ribbons and one of his Honour Guard drove him to the venue ready for pictures outside, unfortunately the ribbons flew off on the drive over but Flower Design team were at hand with every colour of ribbon available to dress the car in our wedding colours.
  • Venue stylist/wedding planner – I didn’t have a wedding planner, but Samlesbury Hall does have a wedding coordinator, who was really helpful. She recommended a number of useful suppliers and was able to accommodated all of our wedding day requests along with a few special touches of her own; Angela dressed the ceremony room in fairy lights which perfectly added to the wintry feel of the day, she also lined the outside walk way with tea lights in jam jars to guide the evening guests to the entrance. Our Chair covers and sashes were by Carol Temby at In-style venues. As the weather was so bad, we were also give access to have photo’s taken in Narnia. The room was dressed for children by Samlesbury for Christmas. Magical!
  • Entertainment/music – Our DJ for the evening party was from Dancefloor Couture in Preston, Lancashire. During the day we had a pianist, Simon McClure, who played beautifully throughout the ceremony and wedding breakfast.
  • We also had a Master of Ceremonies, Howard Rudge, who coordinated the flow of the day to ensure every last detail was in order and everything went to plan. Prior to the wedding breakfast he also gave our guests an insight into the history of Samlesbury Hall and the people who had visited over its 800 years, after the wedding breakfast he took a number of guests into the parlour to tell them about the ghosts of Samlesbury Hall which was a huge hit with the children.
  • Menu – Samlesbury Hall have their own chefs who prepared our menu. We chose three types of canapés for the reception; chicken satay skewers, mini Moroccan kebabs and sun blushed tomatoes on a crisp base with pesto drizzle, the reception drink was winter pimms which is served warm. For the wedding breakfast we had tomato, basil and split pea soup to start, tender loin of beef with red wine jus and fondant potatoes for the main and sticky toffee pudding with ice-cream, raspberries and butterscotch sauce for dessert with sparking wine for the toast. The evening buffet was a selection of bacon and sausage sandwiches, chunky chip cones along with our wedding cake served as dessert.
  • Cake – Our wedding cake was designed and created by Emily-Jane Moore from Preston, Lancashire. The cake was a mixture of chocolate fudge cake and lemon drizzle cake.
