It gives me great pleasure to introduce you to another member of my Dream Team, Toni Darcy.
Toni is a young modern photographer with a really forward thinking approach, she has an amiable yet creative personality which most definitely reflects her approach to capturing really beautiful and personal images.
I asked Toni a few questions to get to know the lady behind the lens a little more….
Tell me about your approach to photography
I have been described as…A creative box of tricks, always looking for the wow factor and having the vision and energy to find it. My passion is to create beautiful images that are personal and unique.
How did you get into photography and why did you become a wedding photographer?
Weddings are so precious and personal. It’s not just the wedding day alone that I love, it’s the months before and the after too. My favourite moments are most definitely the hustle and bustle before the ceremony and those tiny glances that relay true love. Photographing weddings enables me to capture these intimate moments and make them last a lifetime.
Who / what would you say has been instrumental in your success?
I honestly believe that if you are passionate about something you will do anything to make it happen. I’m lucky that I have a great network of friends, two of whom are also professional photographers, Nicola from Create Studios and Erica of Erica Boys Photography have not only helped me gain more knowledge as a photographer but they have also encouraged me to develop my own style. In the photography industry people do help and inspire one another – like a big family.
Who / what inspires you?
I’m inspired mainly by people’s reactions and emotions.
Do you have a particular photography style and can you describe it for us?
My style is very relaxed and informal, to see but not be seen. To capture your whole wedding day in a natural way that tells a story that’s unique to you. I also like to take you as the new couple away for an intimate portrait shoot which encases your love for each other, with minimal direction. During this time I like to capture the individual personality of the couple, by using natural light, bold colours and creative angles.
What is the most challenging thing about photographing weddings?
Every wedding is a new challenge, that’s what I love! The most challenging things are timing natural reactions and low lighting! I request to meet the couple at the wedding venue beforehand to pick the best photo opportunities, by accessing the light and space.
and the best part of it?
EVERYTHING! The whole day is an adrenaline rush!
What advice would you give to couples when choosing a wedding photographer? What should a couple be asking their photographer?
A great relationship!.. You need to feel totally relaxed and comfortable around your wedding photographer. You need to feel confident that they can produce everything that is required on your big day. You need to assess if they are right for you, view their recent work and also ask them to confirm the process before and after your wedding.
How do you ensure the images you capture are what the couple wants from their day?
All my wedding packages offer a pre-wedding shoot and several informal chats to discuss specific needs. There’s also the reassurance that I’m at the end of the telephone.
What are your thoughts on the wedding industry and how has it changed / how will it change in the future?
There is so much room for more experimentation, room for people to become even more imaginative and personal.
Whose wedding (past, present or future) would be your dream wedding to photograph?
Honest answer… Lady Gaga.. Why? Because her unique style and attention to detail would challenge my creativity and skills to capture her eccentric personality.
Who would you love to work/collaborate with and why? Do you have any plans to make this happen?
I would love to work with so many photographers, it’s an industry where people are inspired by one another to be more creative and imaginative.
Can you share with us a sneak-peak exclusive of future plans for your business / goals for this year?
A new challenging project is my 366.. A photo taken everyday for a whole leap year, it is something that I am so excited about, it’s like a photo diary..
I’m also excited about my brand new website and blog to be launched in early spring.
When you are not photographing weddings what are you doing?
Skiing, travelling, catching up with friends and entertaining my live wire border collie!
What is your ultimate dream in life?
I dream big… I aim high!.
Thanks so much Toni for sharing this insight into her work, and I hope you agree a really beautiful selection of images that represent her unique style.
