It’s Tuesday morning and that can only mean that it is time for another real event feature. And today we have something a little bit different for you: a fabulous serving of baby shower inspiration from Karen Feder Photography.
This gorgeously styled Minnesota event was held in honour of Karna and the imminent arrival of her first baby; a little girl due this month! Karna has had a fairly rough ride through her first pregnancy with sickness and hospital visits which makes this sweet event all the more special as Karna got to spend precious time with those closest to her, celebrating the imminent arrival of her “Little Missy”.
The shower was attended by Karna’s closest friends from college and high school, with two of Karna’s high school friends also pregnant and due within a month or two of each other. Karna told me that with no parents or grandparents present, everyone was around the same age which made for a very comfortable and relaxed event.
The party was planned and organised by Karna’s friends and whilst she knew the date, she was kept in the dark about the creative process. “Showers are quite popular among my group of friends … and you could say I’m lucky because as one of the last ones to get pregnant, I’m also one of the last ones to have a baby shower, so we’ve all learned a thing or two over the years about what works and what doesn’t (what people enjoy and what people groan about). All my friends are very creative and they also got a lot of inspiration from Pinterest.
The whole event was amazing; from the guest book to the decor to the food. When the girls arrived, they were tasked with making barrettes for my little one. I now have dozens of barrettes in many different colours that I’ll be able to have my little girl wear for years — not only was it an extra special present but it also showed their creativity – I have some truly talented friends.
The entire thing made me feel so special because there were so many details that brought together a beautiful shower.”
Karna’s friends took inspiration from nature in their styling of the event, choosing a bird motif which was used throughout the shower with beautiful bird cages, paper and ceramic birds and even cute cupcakes featuring bird nests and a fabulous centre cake with a birdhouse on the top.
Attention to detail was key at this event and her friends incorporated further sweet touches to carry the bird theme through, including holding a quiz entitled “Before They Left The Nest” that asked questions about Karna and her husband growing up. Even the guest book invited guests to “leave some tweets for Karna and the baby”.
For me the highlight of this baby shower has to be the mouthwatering array of food! I mean just look at it all! “The food was deliciously sinful and definitely filled me up (surprisingly for being pregnant)! The sweets were yummy cookie dough truffles and cupcakes that were red velvet with cream cheese frosting (with the nests made of chocolate shavings and fondant eggs). Along with the sweets were veggie dip cups (cut veggies in cups with hummus), croissant sandwiches and fruit kebabs. No one could or should have gone away hungry!” My kind of do! They also served sparkling lemonade in mason jars with straws which were perfectly refreshing on a warm day.
Karna told me that one of her favourite aspects of the day was where guests completed a fill-in-the-blanks entitled “Dear Baby…” recording their hopes for the baby. ”The answers from each of the girls were so different and so special, representing their personalities and hopes. It’s something I will treasure and look back on as she arrives, as she grows and as their hopes for her turn into realities”.
Whilst baby showers still are not hugely popular in the UK, I think this shower is a great example of just how personal and beautiful they can be – a true celebration of your friends and existing life as well as an opportunity to look forward to exciting next steps.
