Pocketful of Dreams designed event, photography by Mark Tattersall

Within the PLANNING category on Pocketful of Dreams, you will find little snippets of advice to help you create your perfect wedding or event. Over the coming weeks I am going to be adding a lot more resources to this category, as this is after-all where my expertise lies.

Being an event professional for over 10 years I feel have learnt a thing or two about designing and planning the perfect event, I have certainly learnt what NOT to do, having faced every drama imaginable which I’m very proud to say I managed to overcome without anyone knowing about any of the little mishaps going on behind-the-scenes. So I feel well placed to share an insight into this world and give you a few nuggets of advice that will help you plan your own perfect event.

I once organised a very important corporate event for over 200 people, the big boss was quite a scary chap and when issue after issue presented itself on the day, I did what I had to do to ensure the event went ahead as planned and all the guests were none the wiser.

He came to me at the end of the day and congratulated me on a superb event, I may have felt a little frazzled after a particularly tough day but his words have stuck with me ever since.

“Today my guests have seen you behave like a gracious swan gliding across the water, swiftly and noiselessly, whilst underneath the water you were paddling away to make it all happen. No-one saw you paddling, they only saw you glide, and that is the sign of a job well done.”

And this is so very true it has now become my mantra. This is the what my business is based upon, providing a top-notch service, remaining calm under pressure and ensuring your day runs like a dream. Whilst also throwing in a heap of creative and unique ideas of course.

The only way I can do this though is by being ultra organised to plan carefully and having a very-well defined design concept.

For me being organised is in my blood, in the words of Lady Gaga “I was born this way”, but there are things you can learn about organisation and time-management, as well as lots of tools to help you keep on top of things. So I will be covering a few planning and organisation topics in detail very soon.

The other aspect of a fantastic event is in the design, a well-defined design concept is the absolute crux of a successful and memorable event. And I am so passionate about this aspect, this is the core focus of my business and the service I provide, I am not just a wedding or event planner, I am an event designer. I am passionate about designing and conceptualising ideas that represent you, about creating unique and vibrant events, infused with your personality and of course a whole heap of fun.

Photography Advice: How to capture natural reactions ~ By Wedding Photographer Fiona Kelly

Today folks I have some great advice from someone who knows a thing or two about great photography. I am so lucky in my job as both a blogger and as a wedding planner too that I get to work with some of the most talented and creative photographers around. And I get to drool over their delicious images too.

But I am often sat wondering how they do it, how do they capture those incredible images, how do they expertly freeze that brilliant moment on film, the ones that are so natural and full of emotion that you actually feel like you were there yourself just by viewing the photograph?

Well a creative eye, a lot of skill and years of practice is the answer, but to give you a little more insight, Fiona Kelly a London-based wedding photographer and proud member of my Dream Team, has some great tips on how you too can grasp the art…..

♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦

“Most people don’t enjoy having their photo taken, and yet everyone reacts positively and loves photos that capture something of the essence of a moment. An image that shows the real person, not overly posed; a natural reaction. Capturing that emotion is not straightforward, especially when someone is aware that they are being photographed. Its one thing managing to grab an amazing photo of someone laughing, smiling or even crying, when they aren’t aware that image is being taken. Quite something else when you have a rather camera shy person stood in front of you! This is when its up to you, as the photographer, to gain that persons trust and help them relax in front of the camera. Here are some great ways to get those great ‘natural reactions’ with just a little assistance…

Reach out to the person & put your camera down
I know, the irony isnt lost, but just think of how much of a wall that camera can be, especially to someone a bit uncomfortable about having a photo taken. Its a great black lump that stops your rather nervous model from seeing your eyes and connecting with you. Im not suggesting packing the camera away, but lower it a bit every now and again. Have a conversation, ask questions and find out about what makes the person you are photographing tick. Once they trust you and have connected with you a little they will relax. Once they have relaxed you will start to see the real person, and while you are chatting you can start taking a few pictures. The conversation will make them more animated and you can begin to capture some real reactions and show their personality.

Keep taking photos
Once you have put the person at ease then take the time to take a few more photos than you think you might want or need. As with any new situation, most people take a little while to get into the swing of it so keep taking those shots. Make sure you try a few different angles and crops. Most people have a ‘good side’ or a pose or position thats more flattering than others so try out some options. Don’t be afraid to direct them, after all they can’t see how they look through the camera.

Have a bit of fun, and be a little silly
You may find some people leap into the whole ‘photoshoot’ thing quicker than others. One way of figuring out the persons comfort level is to have a little fun and get them to play around with different expressions. Can they be a bit silly, serious, sad or cheeky? (Feel free to join in and help them get into the swing of it!) This isn’t the be all or end all, as some people will immediately feel really self conscious, but at the very least they might start giggling at how silly they feel and you have immediately helped them relax and the ice is broken.

What happens in between the ‘shots’ is the key
These are the times when you can see the real person you are photographing. These moments are the ones that happen right after the shot that the person was waiting for. They relax, they stand or sit the way they would naturally and this can make for wonderful photos that reflect the true personality of your subject. What this means for the photographer is that you should be ready to shoot at all times. Be prepared, anticipate the unplanned and look for those perfect shots that capture your subjects natural reactions.

Do a bit of homework before the shoot
Its amazing how much you can find out about someone before the shoot by asking a few simple questions and chatting a little, even over email. The more you can find out before the easier it will be to get a feel for the person you are shooting and what makes them tick. It also means they will feel more comfortable with you as they will get to know you a bit through this process too. This can help you to work out what to say or do that will make them relax and allow you get those fab shots.

When it comes down to it, there are no hard and fast rules. Nothing is going to guarantee that you get that killer shot that just truely sums up the person you are shooting, but you can certainly help things slightly. Be yourself, be friendly and chatty and above all be ready, prepared and constantly watch whats happening because you never know when that perfect shot is going to happen.

Thanks so much to Fiona for these helpful tips, I know as someone with a keen interest in photography I love to hear from the pro’s about how they do it and I still remain in awe. As a blogger the ability to take good photo’s is a must and great photography is something that really inspires me and I hope to continue to learn more about this fine art, sharing my learnings with you as I go, and moving away from the trusted iPhone to my DSLR which sadly remains a dustcatcher at the back of my office.

So tell me, do you have an interest in photography, do you know your ISO from your Aperture? Would you like to know more about the basics of photography or is there any burning questions you have for our resident experts? I know many photographers who read the blog so if you do have any questions get them in now.

Much love,

Michelle xx

British Bloggers in Support of British Flowers ~ Will you support the campaign?

Today folks I have something rather different to share with you. If you’re a regular to Pocketful of Dreams you will know I have something of an obsession with flowers. But whilst I appreciate their beautiful aesthetics I know very little about flower types, origins and how to grow them myself. So it’s just as well that I have a few rather talented friends who do know a thing or two about blooms.

One such friend is Kat Weatherill who owns a gorgeous little flower boutique in Barrowford, Lancashire, Kat cut her teeth in garden design and really does know her hyacinths from her hydrangeas. She is taking part in the ‘British Bloggers in Support of British Flowers’ campaign and bonus points for us will be sharing her journey right here on Pocketful of Dreams as she attempts to raise awareness and support for British Flowers and their growers.

I am positive this will be an exciting journey and I’m really looking forward to hearing all about it, here’s Kat to tell you a little more…..

♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦

{Gorgeous British grown Dahlia’s, Delphiniums, Mollucella
in a beautiful bouquet direct from the grower Common Farm Flowers in Somerset.}

“I love flowers, I am a ‘plantaholic’, I garden and I believe strongly in supporting ‘Buy British’ and your local businesses. So imagine my delight when  Vanessa Kimbell, broadcaster and British Blogger of Goddess On A Budget tweeted about a campaign she is spear heading ‘British Bloggers in Support of British Flowers’. It sent me running to get my soap box (actually a vintage British bushel crate!) and my lap top.

{British Anemones and Prunus in a simple hand-tied bouquet,
grown and created by Green and Gorgeous in Oxfordshire}

The challenge is to help raise awareness and support for British Flower Growers and British Flowers. There has already been a shift in the way we think regarding fresh food, in the supermarket now we try to buy seasonal, with more local and organic produce available. There are more people growing their own veggies, (even if its only a few tomatoes and a herb box, it’s a start!) and allotments becoming more popular again.

Now its the time to think about the flowers, when you put a bunch in your shopping trolley, do you look at the label? Do you wonder how the florist includes peonies in your bouquet in January? No? Maybe its time to.

{Gorgeous Roses & native flower arrangements at an RHS show
by The Traditional Flower Company grown in Staffordshire.}

Many of the flowers we see in the supermarkets and florists have flown thousands miles from halfway round the world, often the flower farms do not follow the ‘Fair Trade’ policy and the workers are exploited. They are mass producing flowers to meet demand, but lets do our bit to reduce the ‘Flower Miles’, enjoy and celebrate the beautiful seasonality of British Flowers, red roses for valentines? I know personally I’d rather have a bunch of white scented British Hyanciths and Hellebores.

{How Handsome! Beautiful British Hellebores
from Green and Gorgeous Flowers}

One of my favourite sayings when dealing with a problem is “How do you eat an Elephant? – One bite at a time!”

So how do we begin this Flower Revolution? Vanessa Kimbell has taken the first bite for us:

“I am starting a campaign to ask that we foodies apply the same principles to flowers as we do to our food and support local, sustainable, seasonal and British. We’ve had a revolution in the way in which we source and buy our food .. it’s time we applied the same logic to flowers.

Think of the impact we foodies could have if we apply the same standards to flowers.  We’d revolutionize the way people think about flowers.

There are lots of ways we can create change but to start with  ..
~ Look out for British flowers in the Supermarket.
~ Support our flower growers and buy from florist who stock local British flowers.
~ Look out for local growers at the farmers markets and farm shops.
~ Ask for British Flowers wherever you go.

~ Grow your own..  it doesn’t get more local that!”

{Beautiful, simple and effective jam jars filled with flowers
from Common Farm Flowers}

I will aim to assist you as much as I can over the next few months, with further blog posts about this worthy campaign. I will also create a list of British Flower Growers (and their Blogs) as I discover more (including those that deliver nationally) and hopefully advise you on “growing your own”, it doesn’t have to be scary, or a huge task, a simple pot of daisy like Cosmos to cheer your day, or a few sweet peas to bring scent, pleasure and beauty to your home. But if you have a little room to spare what would bring more joy than your own small cutting garden?

{Sweet peas and cornflowers at the farm of Green and Gorgeous flowers}

Meanwhile to further my support, part of the challenge set by Vanessa Kimbell to kickstart British Bloggers in Support of British Flowers Campaignis for 30 British food & lifestyle Bloggers to grow our own posy of flowers and share this journey with you, with the grand unveiling of the bouquet by 15th August this year. This has been facilitated by the lovely people at Thompson and Morgan, who are generously donating the seeds to us bloggers. I received mine in the post recently, Cosmos ‘All Sorts, Cosmos Double Click ‘Rose BonBon’, Zinnia ‘Candy Cane’, so its going to be a ‘blooming’ gorgeous summer!

I hope you enjoy this flowery journey with me. Have a beautiful day.

You can keep in touch with Kat between blog posts on Facebook and Twitter. And of course do pop by her blog Tea on The Terrace and online shop.
This is such an exciting initiative and one I am delighted to be following and of course sharing with all my readers. Do let me know your thoughts on locally sourced flowers, is this something you think about when selecting your blooms, is it something you will think about in the future. And how about growing your own, will you be having a go?

Honeymoons: Luxury For Less in Thailand

Good morning folks,

I hope you’ve had a fantastic Easter break. Mine has been full to bursting with so much enjoyment I cannot even begin to describe how wonderful it has been. From long lazy breakfasts to relaxing lunches in the most fabulous country pubs to magical walks in the rain. Today I feel on top of the world and ready to tackle the working week with vigour.

I thought it would be a great time to share another fantastic honeymoon ideas post, so today we have Emma of The Honeymoon Project for another excellent virtual tour to tempt and inspire you. Emma is of course an expert in all things honeymoon and today she is taking us to Thailand with tips on how you can enjoy this beautiful location without busting the budget.

Over to you Emma…..

Luxury for less: Thailand

It’s no surprise that Thailand is such a popular honeymoon destination –despite being firmly on the tourist trail, it still retains a real sense of the exotic and is home to some truly amazing scenery (not to mention beaches), delectable food, and an incredible number of luxury hotels. What is surprising, however, is just how affordable some of this luxury can be – sure, there are places where you can easily spend upwards of £300 a night, but there’s also a whole slew of gorgeous places for the kinds of prices you’d pay for a pokey room in an old-fashioned B&B back home. Here’s just a few of my favourites:

Akyra Chura Samui, Koh Samui

When I first saw the pictures of akyra Chura Samui, I thought it was going to be yet another hotel that I probably wasn’t ever going to be able to afford to go to. And then I heard the price, and thought I was imagining things. A deluxe room for £55? A one-bedroom suite for £80? Are you absolutely sure? And yes, those are the prices, and yes, they are sure, so this is an absolutely amazing bargain. Oh, and then there’s the minibar in every room, which is absolutely free, and stocked (and replenished) daily with beers, soft drinks, water, nuts and chocolate – now, that’s not even something you can expect in the most luxurious of hotels.

The resort is situated on Chaweng Beach, arguably Koh Samui‘s most beautiful beach (if rather developed) – thankfully, it’s at the quieter, less developed end, which means you get to enjoy a bit of peace and seclusion, while only being a short distance from other bars and restaurants. I love the look of the pool, with its fabulous sea views, plus there’s also a spa (including a beach sala), a beach bar and a number of places to eat.

Rooms vary from deluxe, which look onto a tropical garden, to one-bedroom seaview suites, with a private terrace and garden. My brother and his fiancé recently stayed here after I recommended it and loved it – and they said it more than lives up to all the gorgeous photos. A complete steal.

From £50 a night.

The Metropolitan, Bangkok

Bangkok is an absolutely massive city, so it’s really important to choose where you stay carefully. Personally, I’d always choose to stick close to the Skytrain, which is a great, easy way of getting around the city, and hooks up nicely to the fabulous river ferry. The city is home to countless famous five-star hotels, many with rates to match, but if you’re looking to save a few pennies, without scrimping on style, then you can’t do much better than the Metropolitan, situated in the city’s more upmarket business district, but just a short distance from shopping and nightlife. It’s not hard to see why this is such a popular hotel – it’s undoubtedly sleek and cool, and offers a real respite from the busy city outside – just what you’ll want in Bangkok.

The rooms here are smart and unfussy – lots of dark wood and light fabrics – and, if you can afford it, I’d definitely recommend booking a Terrace Room, which includes a private patio, complete with outdoor shower. You’ll want to stay somewhere with a pool in Bangkok, and the outdoor one here is great. The city is full of gastronomic delights, and the Metropolitan is home to the fabulous Nahm, headed up by acclaimed chef David Thomson and serving up exquisite Thai food. This is a great example of how you don’t have to sacrifice style or amenities if you’re on a budget.

From £82 a night.

De Naga, Chiang Mai

Of course, there’s more to Thailand than just beaches and Bangkok, and Chiang Mai, in the north of the country, is one of the most popular places to experience the more traditional side of the country. Though firmly on the tourist trail, Chiang Mai is a great place to visit, and make an excellent base for exploring the surrounding area – whether on a trek, an elephant ride, or a river cruise. De Naga is a fabulous boutique hotel that’s right in the thick of the action, while remaining a seclusion that’s perfect for when you want to retreat from the city.

Rooms here are decorated with lots of rich colours and dark woods, and so feel both stylish and rather traditionally Thai at the same time; even the deluxe (the cheapest room category; shown in the first photo), seems rather spacious, or you could splash out on the rather flash Naga Suite (£130/night) for complete luxury. The outdoor swimming pool is the perfect place to cool off after a day out exploring, and drinks can be enjoyed in “Lovers Court”; during the day, high tea is served here.

From £48 a night.

Finding your perfect wedding photographer {Guest Post by Fiona Kelly}

Today folks I have some great advice about choosing your perfect wedding photographer by Fiona Kelly. Fiona is a London-based wedding photographer and a member of my Dream Team and so is perfectly placed to tell you all you need to know, over to you Fiona…..

♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦

Venturing into the world of wedding planning can be a daunting task. There are so many decisions, so many companies offering you services and so much to look at and take in. Knowing where to start can be tricky and making sure you make the right decision about your wedding photographer really can be make or break. There are couples I know, who chose photographers who didn’t really rock their boat but they went with because their mum/dad/aunty/friend had recommended or heard about. Unfortunately they now have photos they hate and no real captured memories of their amazing day. Its a real shame.

With this in mind, a while back I started writing a few helpful points for what to look for when searching for a wedding photographer. This mainly came about after being asked a lot of these questions by friends and prospective clients, couples who were having a tricky time finding someone that fitted what they wanted. I hope it gives some guidance and some points for thought…

1. DONT LET PRICE PUT YOU OFF BUT BE REALISTIC

It seems like an odd thing to say, especially at a time when budgets are tight for most, but first and foremost you should find a photographer (or a couple of them) who’s work you love. Many photographers offer flexible packages, gift vouchers and mini packages and they will be happy to work with you to get you the coverage you want for your wedding day.

If you simply love the work of a particular photographer its worth trying to make it work financially, obviously within reason, bankrupting yourself isn’t the way to start married life! Many brides will be considering paying thousands for a dress yet the one lasting memory of that very special day is often pinched and is a secondary thought. This can often end up in images that are less than satisfactory and couples that aren’t happy with the service they receive.

Having images that will make you smile, laugh and feel the emotion again in 20 years time is worth the investment.

2. LOOK AT SAMPLES OF THEIR WORK

Arrange a meeting and see, first hand, the quality and finish of their work. Check if they were the one that took the shots. More importantly, will they be shooting your actual wedding day? Some weddings photographers have teams of people so the person you met may not be the one who’s there on the day.

Check the variety of their shots. Have they shots that show the details and close ups as well as the overall venue, pulled back shots and the surroundings? Are they going to be able to tell the whole story of your wedding day? Ask about the group shots and portraits? How do they do these and how long do they take?

Its important that you think about what you want in terms of these shots. Do you want many group shots or do you mainly want a candid coverage of the day?

3. DO YOU LIKE THE PHOTOGRAPHER?

This is probably one of the most important things when choosing who will take your wedding photos. You will be spending a lot of time with your photographer, especially if you have an engagement shoot. They will be a key part of your day so liking them, feeling comfortable and above all else trusting them is so important.

4. WHAT HAPPENS BETWEEN BOOKING AND THE WEDDING DAY?

Find out how your relationship will continue/develop up to the wedding day. Is the photographer available to chat about ideas, will you meet before the day? Do they do a venue visit to check out where they will be shooting? Do they get to know you in a way that means your photographs will truely convey you as a couple? Can you get an engagement shoot to allow you to get some practice in front of the camera? Basically, make sure that you are happy with the level of contact you will have with your photographer once you have signed the contract.

5. ALBUMS & MORE, WHAT ELSE CAN YOU GET?

Ask the photographer what they offer in terms of albums, prints, canvases etc. Anything you may be interested in investing in at some point. There are a wide variety of album companies out there of greater and lesser quality. Find out what albums your photographer offers and see samples. Do you like the style? Do they offer different options of style? What about mini albums for parents?

You may not want an album immediately but its always good to know what your options are. Its also worth asking if the photographer has any time limit on your ordering an album or any other extras once the wedding is over.

Find out who designs their albums. Is it their own work or do they send it off to another company to do? Chances are if they do the design themselves it will be more personal them and while it may take a little longer to do you might just get an album thats more ‘you’.

6. PROFESSIONAL OR AMATEUR?

Its not necessarily going to be very obvious as not every professional photographer belongs to lots of associations or has qualifications coming out of their ears. Most will probably belong to one or two such as the SWPP (society of wedding and portrait photographers), BIPP (british institute of professional photographers), the ISPWP (international society of professional wedding photographers) or the RPS (royal photographic society) so you can always ask.

The main thing to look out for is their level of professionalism. How do they present themselves? How organised and efficient are they? Do they look like they do this as their career?

A good photographer will have everything sorted, even if you’re not aware of how much they are doing. They will know what to expect and what to look out for. They’ll have records of shots to do, places to be and people they need to speak to.

I know its hard to tell when you first meet them but you will get a feeling. Do they answer calls or emails within good time? Are they punctual? Are they full prepared for your meeting? These will give you some clues. You want to be able to discuss your requirements and then forget about your photography on the day, knowing that your photographer has it all in hand!

If you choose to go with someone who is just starting out thats great, everyone needs to start somewhere and you can get some great deals on photography coverage by using someone who is new to the profession. Just make sure you know about this and are comfortable with it. There’s a big difference between a talented new comer and someone who just has a go as an extra job without really having the experience.

7. HOW DOES THE PHOTOGRAPHER APPROACH WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY?

This is a bit of a continuation to point 6 as well as being a valid point of its own. You need to work out if the photographer is just taking photos or if they are creating beautiful images. Are they passionate about what they do or is it just a job? There are many photographers who can take a decent photo and do a good enough job, but what you will probably end up with here are photos that could be of anyones wedding. Really do look for someone who’s enthusiasm makes you feel that your wedding is as special to them as it is to you. You are individual, so is your wedding, so your photos should reflect that. Not just be one off a shelf.

THE NEXT STEP…

I hope this has provided some help. When you find your perfect photographer, book them. Then relax, safe in the knowledge that you will have an amazing wedding day and end up with the most marvellous images that make you smile and bring back those special memories for years to come.

If you have any further questions or just want to chat about anything related to this or photography in general do give me a call. Im always happy to help.

Honeymoon Planning: Cosy Places to Stay in the UK

Good morning folks,

Today I am once again welcoming Emma of The Honeymoon Project for another excellent addition to my wedding planning advice series. Emma is of course an expert in all things honeymoon and we thought we would help kickstart those plans Honeymoon plans (or even just a romantic weekend away) with a few staycation ideas.

Over to you Emma…..

♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦

It’s still decidedly chilly outside at the moment, so my thoughts are turning towards weekends away in cosy country cottages or hotels, where we can head out for long walks and then warm ourselves by the fire with a nice warming glass of something alcoholic…Sounds pretty perfect, no? If you’re planning on honeymooning during the winter or early spring, you may be perfectly happy to make the most of the colder weather, rather than jetting off for some winter sun. And why not? Here’s a few delightfully cosy places to stay in the UK that might just tempt you to stay at home.

September Cottage, North Bovey, Devon

Dartmoor is perhaps my most favourite place in the UK, and though it’s wonderful throughout the year, in my opinion it’s at its best in winter, when the moors seem especially dramatic and wild, and you can make up for those blustery walks by retreating afterwards to a gorgeous old pub. And where better to stay in Dartmoor then a gorgeous fifteenth-century thatched-roof cottage?

With fireplaces in both the living and dining rooms, and an Aga in the kitchen, this is every inch the cosy countryside cottage you really want at this time of year. It’s been beautifully decorated in keeping with the property’s age, while seeming modern and stylish at the same time. It’s situated in the charming village of North Bovey, so you’ll be able to wander down to the local pub (always a bonus), and Dartmoor is literally right on your doorstep. The only trouble will be dragging yourselves away from the cottage to explore the world outside…

From £1000 a week (shorter stays available).

Cosy UK - The Inn at Whitewell interior, Honeymoon PLanning, Uk breaks, Boutique hotels, gourmet breaks

The Inn at Whitewell, Lancashire

Winter is the perfect time to make the most of the many fantastic old country pubs in the UK, and I love staying at a “pub with rooms”, not least because it means just stumbling upstairs after sampling some of the local beers. Set in a pair of gorgeous old buildings on the edge of the fells, with beautiful views over the countryside, the Inn at Whitewall is another great place for brisk walks before retreating to a fireside seat in the bar to sample some local food and drink.

The rooms are surprisingly luxurious for a pub – expect lots of dark wooden furniture, floral (but not fussy) fabrics, and even the luxury of a fireplace. Bathrooms are kitted out with antique bathtubs, and there’s beautiful views from the restaurant. A really gorgeous retreat – and you’re not far from Manchester or Leeds if you fancied combining a stay here with a few days in a city.

From £113 a night.

The Grove, Pembrokeshire

I’ve obviously read far too many Classics as, for me, the British coastline is at its dramatic best in winter, though of course I know that thousands (no, millions?) would disagree. Pembrokeshire has a well-deserved reputation for having one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in the UK; and, set among the gorgeous countryside, The Grove is ideally placed for exploring this part of Wales.

I love the combination of striking wallpaper and period features (including roll-top baths – always a luxurious touch), which create the sumptuous feel that you really want from a winter hideaway. If the weather isn’t in your favour, you can cosy up in the lounge bar by the log fire, or enjoy locally-sourced food (including some from their own kitchen garden) in the restaurant. That said, you won’t want to miss out on exploring the local area – wonderful coastal walks, cute little fishing villages, boutiques and galleries in nearby Narberth, and more activities (mountain-biking, golfing, coasteering…) than you’ll have time to squeeze in.

From £150 a night.

Thanks so much to Emma for these great ideas, you can find even more on her fab website The Honeymoon Project and also on twitter and facebook.

I can thoroughly recommend the Inn at Whitewell and was there just last weekend in fact. I enjoyed a sunny walk in the beautiful countryside surrounding the Inn, including a precarious jaunt across the famous stepping stones up into the fields and farmland beyond and of course rounding off the walk with a thoroughly deserved tipple in the Inn. Delicious.

I’d love to hear your honeymoon plans, have you started thinking about it yet, what ideas have you had, will you be staying in the UK?
