Dream Team: Welcoming Leo Bojesen Wedding Photography

Good afternoon folks,

It’s time for me to introduce you to another creative mastermind who has made it into my Dream Team. As many of you who follow Pocketful of Dreams will know, only the very best make it into my Dream Team. These are the people who I believe have that creative edge and spark of brilliance when it comes to their craft, Leo Bojesen is one of those people. A wedding photographer, originally from Sweden and now residing in Sheffield, Leo specialises in weddings, engagements and lifestyle serving the Yorkshire area and UK.

♦  ♦  ♦

Leo (that would be him pictured below) told me all about his passion for photography and why he believes in capturing memories in a moment…..

When people meet me or listen to my voice, one of the first things they ask is where are you from? To keep it short, I’m born in Sweden, grew up in Ohio, USA, moved back to Sweden and now I’m in the UK. I might not necessarily speak with the Yorkshire dialect but have picked up a few sayings, such as, “Hiya, you doin’ alwight.” I’d like to think of myself as a happy go-lucky type of guy. I love to see new places and meet new people. Which makes wedding photography such an enjoyment for me.

Why did you become a wedding photographer?

I have always had an interest in art. My mom actually wanted me to go to university to study art. However, when I went to university I decided to study science. The love of creating pictures has always been a part of me. I’ve been into photography for the past eight years and instead of drawing on a regular basis, I now create pictures using a camera. On a wedding day, there’s a great variety of photography that goes on from macro to landscape to portraits while thinking on your feet which gives me a buzz.

Who / what would you say has been instrumental in your success?

I really like the quote, ‘Wherever you go, no matter what the weather, always bring your own sunshine’ – A. J. D’Angelo People enjoy to surround themselves with positive people. It boosts them up. If I can do that, I feel successful.

Who / what inspires you?

I get inspired from movies, fashion and travel magazines as well as travelling. Seeing new places is a great way to open the mind. I love new adventures. One needs to also keep up on what others are doing in the photography world. So many people nowadays like to share what they do to help everyone reach new heights. When I meet couples, sometimes one of them are very keen on photography. They like to ask questions and I don’t mind to share. There’s the saying that “a rising tide lifts all boats”. It definitely rings true for the photography industry.

Do you have a particular style and can you describe it for us?

My style is a natural timeless imagery that can endure for many decades without looking dated. I like imagery that is bright, colourful and fun.

What is the most challenging thing about photographing weddings?

The most challenging part is making sure that I don’t miss any key event. I need to know the timeline of the day. I’m usually pumped up with adrenaline, being attentive and yet also keeping a calm disposition.

and the best part of it?

The best part is feeling the genuine care that everyone has for each other throughout the day. I love seeing how the couple’s wedding plans have come together, what items they’ve chosen to represent them and what new ideas they’ve come up with that I have not seen before.

What advice would you give to couples when choosing a wedding photographer?

What should a couple be asking their photographer? My advice to a couple is to find someone that shares your vision of your wedding. Couples like to meet in person or via Skype to see if the photographer is a good match for them. You can see the personality of the photographers and know if you like them.  Another item is discussing family portraits. Some couples like a long list of portraits to be made and if that’s the case, ask the photographer if he/she is okay with that. Some photographers like to do only a few family portraits so the couple can get on with the rest of their day.  Having the same vision of the day is crucial.

A little explanation of the wedding photo above….“This wedding took place just outside of Sorrento, Italy. As the bride gets ready in the morning for a few hours, I ask the bride’s brother what he’ll be doing. He said, he’s going to the beach. I turn to the groom, “what will you be doing?” “I don’t know,” he replied. I swiftly responded, “well, I’m going to the beach with the bride’s brother for a little bit so if you want to come, you’re more than welcome.” Let’s just say it didn’t take much convincing for him to come along. We had a fun time together and this is one of the shots in the water with the Pompeii volcano in the background. The groom said with a smile, “as she’s beautifying herself, I’m beautifying my skin with the sea salt treatment.” That made me laugh out loud. Sometimes you never know what will happen on a wedding day.”

How do you ensure the images you capture are what the couple wants from their day?

Open and specific communication is the key. The couples come to me since they feel that I can capture their day as intended. They’ve seen my photo gallery and liked my style. If there are any particular images they want to be taken, I ask them well in advance so that I can meet that expectation.

What are your thoughts on the wedding industry and how has it changed / how will it change in the future?

The wedding industry has shifted to a more relaxed approach. Instead of cookie cutter type of weddings, more couples are seeking to create a unique day that represents them. We see some  couples wearing sneakers, suits instead of tuxedos or even no suit jacket but just a vest. Dresses have changed to different textures and colours and styles to make things more personalized. I like it when couples add special details to exhibit who they are. From vinyl LPs, sports equipment, knick-knacks and fashion stuff makes it a one of a kind wedding. That’s something I love! We see now that weddings are held in unique places such as in a barn or library. Some do what’s called a “first look.” Before the ceremony, the couple will actually meet, looking at each for the first time dressed in that gorgeous gown and awesome groom outfit. I get to capture that moment. It’s one of the few alone times they have together on the day.  A lot times, after the ceremony there will be a demand on the couples attention and having family photos and so on. The first look though is a moment of personalized magic that more and more couples are taking advantage of.

Whose wedding (past, present or future) would be your dream wedding to photograph?

I would simply love to photograph a couple who feel comfortable in their skin and want to have a fun day celebrating their union. And if that were to take place in the Cayman Islands, Tuscany or Bali, for a destination wedding, that would be so much fun.

Who would you love to work/collaborate with and why? Do you have any plans to make this happen?

I would like to colloaborate with more stylists and wedding planners. There’s some incredible wedding planners out there with different styles. One would be Mark Niemierko for the exquisite details of the wedding. There’s another wedding planner based in the States that is amazing, the one and only Michael Russo. I would like to collaborate with Richard from FXfilms and we are planning on putting together a project together this year. I’m really looking forward to it. I hope to also collaborate on a few styled shoots.

Can you share with us a sneak-peak exclusive of future plans for your business / goals for this year?

As technology progresses, we need to adapt. One thought is to move away from discs and advance onto USB devices for images to be delivered and digital downloads. I will soon add a YouTube channel to share little video clips of what I’m up to and give some advice. (If there are any particular things you would like me to share, let me know and let’s see if I can make a short video on it.)

When you are not photographing weddings what are you doing?

I really like food and enjoy cooking up new recipes. Especially Mexican dishes.  I love day trips. I enjoy reading about science and health. I have five brothers and sisters which I keep regular contact with. They are a lot of fun. I volunteer a portion of my time to different causes. I think it’s important to give back to the community and be a force for good.

What is your ultimate dream in life?

My dream is to be successful in my career, happily married and to create fun memories along the way in this journey we call life. I believe that true success is the optimal balance of five core values: Faith, Family, Friends, Fitness, and Finances. I think that’s a simple dream, easier said than done, but a great one to focus on.

Thanks so much to Leo for sharing this insight into his work. Don’t forget Leo, although based in the North of England can work with you wherever you may be based. Please do check out his website Leo Bojesen and if you make an enquiry be sure to mention Pocketful of Dreams.

Dream Team: Welcoming Toni Darcy Wedding Photographer

It gives me great pleasure to introduce you to another member of my Dream Team, Toni Darcy.

Toni is a young modern photographer with a really  forward thinking approach, she has an amiable yet creative personality which most definitely reflects her approach to capturing really beautiful and personal images.

I asked Toni a few questions to get to know the lady behind the lens a little more….

Toni Darcy, Wedding Photographer, Lancashire Wedding Photography, North West Wedding Photography, Lifestyle Photographer, lifestyle portraiture (10)

Tell me about your approach to photography

I have been described as…A creative box of tricks, always looking for the wow factor and having the vision and energy to find it. My passion is to create beautiful images that are personal and unique.

Toni Darcy, Wedding Photographer, Lancashire Wedding Photography, North West Wedding Photography, Lifestyle Photographer, lifestyle portraiture (2)

How did you get into photography and why did you become a wedding photographer?

Weddings are so precious and personal. It’s not just the wedding day alone that I love, it’s the months before and the after too. My favourite moments are most definitely the hustle and bustle before the ceremony and those tiny glances that relay true love. Photographing weddings enables me to capture these intimate moments and make them last a lifetime.

Toni Darcy, Wedding Photographer, Lancashire Wedding Photography, North West Wedding Photography, Lifestyle Photographer, lifestyle portraiture (3)

Who / what would you say has been instrumental in your success?

I honestly believe that if you are passionate about something you will do anything to make it happen. I’m lucky that I have a great network of friends, two of whom are also professional photographers, Nicola from Create Studios and Erica of Erica Boys Photography have not only helped me gain more knowledge as a photographer but they have also encouraged me to develop my own style. In the photography industry people do help and inspire one another – like a big family.

Toni Darcy, Wedding Photographer, Lancashire Wedding Photography, North West Wedding Photography, Lifestyle Photographer, lifestyle portraiture (4)

Who / what inspires you?

I’m inspired mainly by people’s reactions and emotions.

Toni Darcy, Wedding Photographer, Lancashire Wedding Photography, North West Wedding Photography, Lifestyle Photographer, lifestyle portraiture (5)

Do you have a particular photography style and can you describe it for us?

My style is very relaxed and informal, to see but not be seen. To capture your whole wedding day in a natural way that tells a story that’s unique to you. I also like to take you as the new couple away for an intimate portrait shoot which encases your love for each other, with minimal direction. During this time I like to capture the individual personality of the couple, by using natural light, bold colours and creative angles.

Toni Darcy, Wedding Photographer, Lancashire Wedding Photography, North West Wedding Photography, Lifestyle Photographer, lifestyle portraiture (7)

What is the most challenging thing about photographing weddings?

Every wedding is a new challenge, that’s what I love! The most challenging things are timing natural reactions and low lighting! I request to meet the couple at the wedding venue beforehand to pick the best photo opportunities, by accessing the light and space.

Toni Darcy, Wedding Photographer, Lancashire Wedding Photography, North West Wedding Photography, Lifestyle Photographer, lifestyle portraiture (12)

Toni Darcy, Wedding Photographer, Lancashire Wedding Photography, North West Wedding Photography, Lifestyle Photographer, lifestyle portraiture (15)

and the best part of it?

EVERYTHING! The whole day is an adrenaline rush!

Toni Darcy, Wedding Photographer, Lancashire Wedding Photography, North West Wedding Photography, Lifestyle Photographer, lifestyle portraiture (16)

What advice would you give to couples when choosing a wedding photographer? What should a couple be asking their photographer?

A great relationship!.. You need to feel totally relaxed and comfortable around your wedding photographer. You need to feel confident that they can produce everything that is required on your big day. You need to assess if they are right for you, view their recent work and also ask them to confirm the process before and after your wedding.

Toni Darcy, Wedding Photographer, Lancashire Wedding Photography, North West Wedding Photography, Lifestyle Photographer, lifestyle portraiture (17)

How do you ensure the images you capture are what the couple wants from their day?

All my wedding packages offer a pre-wedding shoot and several informal chats to discuss specific needs. There’s also the reassurance that I’m at the end of the telephone.

Toni Darcy, Wedding Photographer, Lancashire Wedding Photography, North West Wedding Photography, Lifestyle Photographer, lifestyle portraiture (18)

What are your thoughts on the wedding industry and how has it changed / how will it change in the future?

There is so much room for more experimentation, room for people to become even more imaginative and personal.

Toni Darcy, Wedding Photographer, Lancashire Wedding Photography, North West Wedding Photography, Lifestyle Photographer, lifestyle portraiture (19)

Whose wedding (past, present or future) would be your dream wedding to photograph?

Honest answer… Lady Gaga.. Why? Because her unique style and attention to detail would challenge my creativity and skills to capture her eccentric personality.

Toni Darcy, Wedding Photographer, Lancashire Wedding Photography, North West Wedding Photography, Lifestyle Photographer, lifestyle portraiture (6)

Who would you love to work/collaborate with and why? Do you have any plans to make this happen?

I would love to work with so many photographers, it’s an industry where people are inspired by one another to be more creative and imaginative.

Toni Darcy, Wedding Photographer, Lancashire Wedding Photography, North West Wedding Photography, Lifestyle Photographer, lifestyle portraiture (9)

Can you share with us a sneak-peak exclusive of future plans for your business / goals for this year?

A new challenging project is my 366.. A photo taken everyday for a whole leap year, it is something that I am so excited about, it’s like a photo diary..

I’m also excited about my brand new website and blog to be launched in early spring.

Dream Team: Welcoming Lottie Designs Wedding Photography

My newest addition to the Pocketful of Dreams Dream Team is Lottie Designs, hailing from Lancashire, and offering Wedding Photography in the North West. I was so absolutely thrilled when I first connected with Charlotte (Lottie), as not only is she local, she is practically right on my doorstep. It is so wonderful to meet other local creative businesses and even better when they evidently share the same level of passion and enthusiasm for this industry as I do. Lottie is one of those people and she is really lovely to boot.

Here’s what she had to say when we recently caught up over a cuppa…“Well I’m in my 30′s (not being too exact with numbers for reasons of vanity) and I’m an incurable romantic, I just absolutely love shooting weddings. Sometimes I can get so wrapped up in events I have been known to cry. I’m always learning too and I’m inspired by creative people, which means I am a serial wedding blog surfer and always collecting images for inspiration.

My approach is very laid back, I’d rather observe and document rather than direct and engineer. I have a quirky sense of humour and always try to make clients feel at ease with the process as most of my clients come to me dreading being the centre of attention. I like to make you feel like your day is easier to cope with, less stressful and smooth-running, and of course resulting in beautiful images even better than you dreamed imaginable”.

Wedding Photography North West, Wedding Photographer North West, Fine Art Wedding Photography, Recommended Wedding Photographer, Wedding photographer, Portraits and Commercial Photography based in Lancashire – covering the whole of lancashire including Clitheroe, Burnley, Blackburn, Preston, Skipton, Manchester, the whole of the North West, West Yorkshire, Cumbria, Lancashire and Cheshire. Lottie Designs (1)

How did you get into photography and why did you become a wedding photographer?

Purely by chance. I’d been an amateur shooter for 15 years, I bought my first DSLR and thought I could take on the world. My partner and I were asked to shoot a friend’s wedding, he hated the experience, I loved it. I’d been a designer (web and graphics) for 12 years in my day job, but I was able to be more creative with a camera than I had ever been as a designer. I was then made redundant, got a nice good-bye payout, set up LottieDesigns (web design/graphic design/photography) started shooting semi-pro, then went fully pro about 12 months later.

Wedding Photography North West, Wedding Photographer North West, Fine Art Wedding Photography, Recommended Wedding Photographer, Wedding photographer, Portraits and Commercial Photography based in Lancashire – covering the whole of lancashire including Clitheroe, Burnley, Blackburn, Preston, Skipton, Manchester, the whole of the North West, West Yorkshire, Cumbria, Lancashire and Cheshire. Lottie Designs (3)

Who / what inspires you?

My clients do. Sounds a cliché, but when they get me, we bounce ideas off each other and come up with something amazing and the images reflect that. I love to surf and soak up ideas, styles, lighting techniques from all kinds of photography sites, not just weddings. All these images are held in my subconscious and on a wedding day they inspire me to create better imagery and better usage of available light.

Wedding Photography North West, Wedding Photographer North West, Fine Art Wedding Photography, Recommended Wedding Photographer, Wedding photographer, Portraits and Commercial Photography based in Lancashire – covering the whole of lancashire including Clitheroe, Burnley, Blackburn, Preston, Skipton, Manchester, the whole of the North West, West Yorkshire, Cumbria, Lancashire and Cheshire. Lottie Designs (6)

Do you have a particular photography style and can you describe it for us?

My style is creative, fine art wedding photography for couples who love life and each other.

What is the most challenging thing about photographing weddings?

Two things, our British weather and lack of light in winter and secondly educating drivers, MC’s, venues, DJ’s and vicars that all photographers are not the same!

and the best part of it?

The LOVE! The first look between bride and groom is the most special thing ever. Told you I was a romantic! Oh and I love details, details, details!

Wedding Photography North West, Wedding Photographer North West, Fine Art Wedding Photography, Recommended Wedding Photographer, Wedding photographer, Portraits and Commercial Photography based in Lancashire – covering the whole of lancashire including Clitheroe, Burnley, Blackburn, Preston, Skipton, Manchester, the whole of the North West, West Yorkshire, Cumbria, Lancashire and Cheshire. Lottie Designs (9)

What advice would you give to couples when choosing a wedding photographer? What should a couple be asking their photographer?

I always say to couples that if you don’t like the personality of the photographer, don’t book. It’s such a crucial decision to make. Even if their work is amazing but they annoy you, this annoyance will multiply 1000 fold with the stress of the day. NB – avoid photographers with whistles!

Wedding Photography North West, Wedding Photographer North West, Fine Art Wedding Photography, Recommended Wedding Photographer, Wedding photographer, Portraits and Commercial Photography based in Lancashire – covering the whole of lancashire including Clitheroe, Burnley, Blackburn, Preston, Skipton, Manchester, the whole of the North West, West Yorkshire, Cumbria, Lancashire and Cheshire. Lottie Designs (8)

How do you ensure the images you capture are what the couple wants from their day?

By listening. I always have at least two meetings with the bride and groom, talking and listening to their needs. Most of my clients already know my style before they meet me, so after the booking I talk them through the day, timings etc and we discuss how and when we will achieve what they want from me. I ask them to imagine waking up the next day having forgotten to take a shot with Auntie Nora, should we have a list of “must-have” images?

Lottie Designs (10)

What are your thoughts on the wedding industry and how has it changed / how will it change in the future?

It’s amazing right now, the changes that have happened since I started in 2005 are mind blowing and this industry keeps going from strength to strength. Finally being a wedding photographer is being seen as a craft and I love it!

Lottie Designs (4)

Whose wedding (past, present or future) would be your dream wedding to photograph?

Anyone that is truly in love. It could be a two hour weekday wedding on a budget or a lavish big-budget shindig in August, as long as I can see the love, I’m happy.

Who would you love to work/collaborate with and why? Do you have any plans to make this happen?

I already work closely with other wedding vendors, like florists and dress shops, and intend to do more of that this year. I would like to try and get some real wedding images published too. Watch this space.

Can you share with us a sneak-peak exclusive of future plans for your business / goals for this year?

I’ve recently started a new Boudoir Photography arm to the business and I’m going to create wedding photography packages for the Autumn including a Boudoir shoot for Brides to give to their grooms as a wedding present. Or first Anniversary gift.

I’m a commercial photographer too and shoot for a few glossy mags. Other than that I’m walking the dogs!

Dream Team: Welcoming Fiona Kelly Wedding Photography

Good afternoon everyone, I am so absolutely delighted to be adding many wonderful new members to my Dream Team who I will be introducing you to over the coming weeks.

If you are a new visitor to the blog, welcome, and let me give you a little insight into what my Dream Team is all about.

The Pocketful of Dreams Dream Team is my hand-picked selection of the best-of-the-best wedding and event industry suppliers. These are the people who will help you to create your own stylish and distinctive events from elegant to quirky, vintage to budget, handmade to couture.

And you can rest assured the only ones who make it into my dream team really are at the forefront of their respective fields. They are the people I know to be the best, either from my own direct experience of working with them, of sampling their products or from trusted recommendations. There is so much out there to look at in this wedding world but only a very small percentage of it has a real creative edge and style, and that is what my Dream Team reflects. You will also find the Dream Team has now had sub-categories added to it so you can quickly find the type of supplier you are looking for.

♦  ♦  ♦

My first welcome of 2012 goes to Fiona Kelly Photography, a London-based photographer who has a really friendly and relaxed approach, something that is so very important I feel. You want to know that your wedding photographer is someone who you could class as a friend, someone you want to spend a day with, and someone you trust to capture your day for you exactly as you dreamed they would.

Fiona has a contemporary, reportage style, using the available natural light where she can to capture beautiful moments as they happen, allowing your day to flow naturally, as well as giving you only minimal direction.

Fiona Kelly Wedding Photography, Wedding Photographer London, Wedding Photography London, Reportage Photography, Contemporary Photography, Bride and Groom, Couple in Love, Getting Married, Wedding Planning (6)

I recently caught up with Fiona to find out more about her wedding photography service…. “When I started shooting weddings one of the main things that I felt was important was to be relaxed about the whole day and the shooting process. A wedding day can be a very stressful thing for all those involved and I didn’t want to add to that stress. I am an organized but fairly easy going person when it comes to working, I am happy to go with the flow but also am in control enough to make sure that all the images I would like to get are got! I am a real people person so love to get to know the couples I work with and do spend time in the run up to the big day chatting to them and making sure they are relaxed around me. By the time of the wedding day there is a friendship developing and I am always aware of being a support to the couple, especially if things are a little challenging on the day. Above everything else I am just me, a friendly and relaxed approach. I watch, I blend in (as much as you can do with a zoom lens on a big camera!) and I record the day as it happens. Capturing reactions and emotions is the biggest thing and if I can bring a smile or a tear to the eye when the photos are viewed later I know I have done it right.

Fiona Kelly Wedding Photography, Wedding Photographer London, Wedding Photography London, Reportage Photography, Contemporary Photography, Bride and Groom, Couple in Love, Getting Married, Wedding Planning (1)

Why did you become a wedding photographer?

Photography was one of those things that had been in my life without me really noticing for a long time. I was one of only three people to study it as part of my A Level art course and then continued it as a personal hobby after, doing evening classes to learn how to process film and really use a camera properly. After studying Graphic Design at University I worked within retail as a designer and photographic art director. I was around photographers constantly, travelling the world directing photoshoots for many years, all the time still taking my own pictures and really developing a love of photography. Like many people it took me getting married, and having the most amazing honeymoon in California, to make me think about actually becoming a photographer. I was getting frustrated at not being the one to be in control of the photo with my work so I decided to take the leap. I did a few courses to learn the ropes and the rest is kind of history!

Who / what would you say has been instrumental in your success?

I still feel I have a long way to go, and want to achieve so much more but am over the moon with the success I have had so far and have a really positive attitude about the future and my business. The only way you can succeed is to work really hard at what you do. Right now I live, breath, eat and sleep photography and my business. I love continually learning so do workshops and courses to keep on top of things and push myself creatively and technically. None of this could have been achieved without my very supportive husband, who has been there the whole way and is so proud of what I do. I think he is hoping he can retire and become a stay at home dad and hubby! I am starting to teach him photography basics so you never know what might happen.

Who / what inspires you?

There are so many amazing photographers who I have come across, met and learned from. Twitter and Facebook have put me into the path of some wonderful people who are generous of their time and knowledge and are happy to help. These people inspire me constantly and make me want to improve and be a better photographer. At the moment I am loving the work of Jasmine Star, Jonas Peterson, Grey Photography and Simply Bloom. There are so many others that I could be naming people for pages.

Do you have a particular photography style and can you describe it for us?

My style would be described mostly as a reportage, candid style. This is the way I love to tell the wedding day story, being a fly on the wall and watching and catching the moments that occur throughout the day. My photography is relaxed and contemporary, I like to keep colours true but make things zing a little and I love punchy black and whites that just look amazing when they are printed. I do enjoy doing some portraits as part of the photography of the day but even these are very natural. I like to capture the real relationship between a couple so tend not to over pose but prompt so reactions are true and natural.

What is the most challenging thing about photographing weddings?

The main thing is probably working around the venue, as you may be working in very low light or only have a small space. This is why I always do a venue visit with the couple before the day. That way we can have a wander around, chat about ideas and I know where will be good areas to shoot. The full group shot is always the hardest thing to do, not necessarily technically, just rounding up 100+ people for one photograph is never easy. As I often say, its like herding cats…almost impossible.

…and the best part of it?

The best part is the people. Working with happy couples, loving families and welcoming friends is the most wonderful way to spend your working day. I love going to new places, meeting new people and developing fabulous friendships with couples who welcome you into their life and ask you to record one of the most important days of their lives. You cant beat it.

Fiona Kelly Wedding Photography, Wedding Photographer London, Wedding Photography London, Reportage Photography, Contemporary Photography, Bride and Groom, Couple in Love, Getting Married, Wedding Planning (4)

What advice would you give to couples when choosing a wedding photographer? What should a couple be asking their photographer?

For me probably the most important bits though are that you get on with the photographer and that you love their work. This way you know that you will be happy to have the person around all day and spend a lot of time with them and also that the images you get and the style they will shoot is what you are happy with and what you want as your wedding photography.

There are number of other things I would recommend that a couple check, which I wrote about here:

  • Don’t let price put you off but be realistic
  • Look at samples of their work
  • Assess if you LIKE the photographer
  • Ask what happens between booking and wedding day
  • Ask about albums and more, so you know what you’re getting
  • Are they professional or amateur?
  • How do they approach wedding photography, just taking pictures or creating beautiful images?

Wise advice there from Fiona, you can read the full article here.

How do you ensure the images you capture are what the couple wants from their day?

As I tend to record the day as it happens the couple will get a fab and full record of their day so will see photos of all the key moments and all the emotions and reactions of not only themselves but their friends and family too. One of the reasons I spend so much time getting to know each couple and listening to them is so I know who the really important people to them are and if they are wanting to get any particular photos.

Fiona Kelly Wedding Photography, Wedding Photographer London, Wedding Photography London, Reportage Photography, Contemporary Photography, Bride and Groom, Couple in Love, Getting Married, Wedding Planning (2)

What are your thoughts on the wedding industry and how has it changed / how will it change in the future?

In the grand scheme of things I am pretty new to the wedding industry. I do know that photographing weddings has come on in leaps and bounds over the last few years and love the fact that the cold and overly formal style is becoming less popular. There is so much more to a wedding day than just getting that posed photo of the couple with their family, and the fact that more couples are wanting a really personal record of their day is a wonderful development. I have been overwhelmed by the support and friendship I have come across within the whole industry and love being a part of it. Its going to be a tricky few years ahead with budgets being very key to everyone, but I think it will just make people really look at what they offer and make sure the levels of service are up to scratch. Offering value for money is a massive thing and so important, and that doesn’t mean cheap, it means great service, great products and a good price for all those things.

I definitely see the trend for more unique and personal weddings, so less cookie cutter styles and more personal touches.

Fiona Kelly Wedding Photography, Wedding Photographer London, Wedding Photography London, Reportage Photography, Contemporary Photography, Bride and Groom, Couple in Love, Getting Married, Wedding Planning (7)

Whose wedding (past, present or future) would be your dream wedding to photograph?

That’s a tricky question! For pure glamour and wow factor Grace Kelly’s wedding to Prince Rainier would have been an amazing one to attend.

Who would you love to work/collaborate with and why? Do you have any plans to make this happen?

My main aim is to keep working with as many different wedding suppliers as I can. I have a number of styled shoots planned for this year, which I love doing and cant wait for. This is the time when I can really get creative and push the skills, as well as work with some amazing people. I have already worked with some really talented photographers, like Anneli Marinovich and Zoe Collyer on particular jobs & projects, and I have an ever growing list of others that I would love to collaborate with.

In order to work with fabulous people I always recommend other suppliers to couples who book me. Its important to get the chance to share great talents and help couples find top suppliers.

Fiona Kelly Wedding Photography, Wedding Photographer London, Wedding Photography London, Reportage Photography, Contemporary Photography, Bride and Groom, Couple in Love, Getting Married, Wedding Planning (9)

Can you share with us a sneak-peak exclusive of future plans for your business / goals for this year?

The big thing for me this year is launching a new website and new side of my business photographing families, children, maternity, boudoir and small events. Having a child 20 months ago really opened this door for me. Suddenly I had my own (kind of) willing new model and have learned how much fun it is to photography children (even ones that never sit still) and capture the laughter and sometimes tears. These times fly by so quickly that I feel its really important to record the moments while you can. I have also worked with so many couples who already have kids when they marry and always enjoy chasing kids around a wedding venue to see what they are going to do next! The new website will be up and running soon and my main aim for this year is to keep working hard on the wedding photography business, while starting to build the new areas. All still very much in the same style, relaxed, natural and focusing on people and their relationships.

When you are not photographing weddings what are you doing?

Without sounding boring a lot of the time not photographing weddings is spent working on all those behind the scenes things like blogs, websites and other important but sometimes not so exciting stuff! I do like to spend as much time as I can with my little boy so try to keep a couple of days a week free for that. Spending time with friends and my husband is fitted in any time I can too.

Dream Team: Snaparazzi Photobooth Hire

I have another brilliant addition to my Dream Team today Snaparazzi Photobooth Hire.

The idea behind my Dream Team is to give you a little insight into my hand-picked selection of the best-of-the-best wedding and party industry suppliers.

There is so much out there to look at in this ol’ wedding world but only a very small percentage of it has a real creative edge and style, and that is what my Dream Team reflects.

You can read all about Snaparazzi Photobooth Hire and don’t miss their special offer below.

♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦

Snaparazzi Photobooth Hire, wedding, event, photography, booth, (3)

I was first introduced to Snaparazzi Photobooth Hire at a party where I was the guest (yes it does happen), and I was so impressed by them. Obviously photobooth rentals are not a new concept and we are seeing them pop-up more and more now at weddings and parties, from the hired booths, to the DIY route. Both have their plus points and their drawbacks. The difference with this one is in it’s style and the service you get from those running the booth.

The booth is a very classic-vintage-style photobooth offering that really authentic experience, with it’s wood exterior, black and white chequered floor, deep red curtain and swivelling stool. It is of course designed for just one or two people to enjoy the experience, but trust me, you can fit more in there, I think I saw at least 6 squeezing in at some points….but this is the beauty of the experience. The curtain offers privacy for those in the booth, allowing you to unleash your inner diva or geek to best effect, posing, preening or just pulling a funny face – with nobody looking on, and if you provide a range of props for your party guests then the images end up even funnier (mine were a champagne glass and a slice of pizza by the end of the night – go figure!!)

Snaparazzi Photobooth Hire, wedding, event, photography, booth, (4)

You can choose black and white or colour photos, hit the go button and beging the posing. There’s even a mirror so you can see how you’re posing, and you get a preview of the image you’ve just taken so you can adjust yourself – genius idea. You get two strips of 4-photos, so you can keep one in a guestbook for yourselves and your guests can keep the other copy. Or if it’s more of a party atmosphere than a wedding your guests can share the strips between them, which is what we did. I am now staring at mine pinned up behind my computer screen.

A brilliant memory of a brilliant night.

Snaparazzi Photobooth Hire, wedding, event, photography, booth, (2)

You can personalise your photostrips with the event name, date and add logos too. Then the images also get uploaded to Facebook so you’ll find your guests logging on, tagging themselves in the photos and reminiscing about how much fun they had.

The real difference I found though with Snaparazzi though was their passion and service. They are professional through-and-through, but they also know how to have a good time. The booth was manned by two lovely people, Ross the brains behind the operation and his assistant Gemma. They got totally stuck in and made the experience so much more enjoyable, even posing for one or two photos themselves. They are what makes this experience so different, and so much fun, they really do go the extra mile to make sure your guests have a lot of fun.

Snaparazzi Photobooth Hire, wedding, event, photography, booth, (1)

I was lucky enough to chat ‘business’ with Ross afterwards and he told me all about how they got started….

“Snaparazzi was the outcome of a boring Sunday afternoon lazing around the family home. I happened to browse through an old photo album and came across a black and white photo strip of my then teenage parents and a few of their long haired hippy friends! This got me thinking…wouldn’t it be great if I had a photo strip of myself and my close friends! And so, the Snaparazzi seed was planted…

18 long months later and after hundreds of long distance phone calls, twice as many emails and numerous set backs and disappointments; Snaparazzi was finally born and unleashed on the UK public to hilarious effect (just check out some of the pictures in our Gallery or our Facebook page to see how hilarious I mean!!) We’ve been such a success at every party that we’ve attended that the only worry we have is that we can’t help but steal the show!

We’ve now got 5 booths between Newcastle and London with two more gorgeous ones on the way!!”

So what do they provide?
  • Delivery to your event location
  • Set up prior to event start
  • 4 or 5 hours of rental time
  • Unlimited photos for the entire event
  • 2 prints of each picture strip (one for your guests and one for your guest book)
  • Professional on-site attendant to assist your guests
  • Guest book (created on the night by our booth assistant)
  • Option for a personalised message on your guests picture strip
  • Black and white and colour photos
  • Online web gallery with password protected access for you and your guests
  • Costume box; we’ve got the best selection of hilarious glasses, hats, wigs and costumes for that extra bit of fun!

Image credit: Lee Niel provided by Wonderland Avenue

I have another fantastic addition to my Wedding Dream team to share with you today ~ the very wonderful Wonderland Avenue.

The idea behind the Pocketful of Dreams Wedding Dream Team is to give you a little insight into my hand-picked selection of the best-of-the-best wedding industry suppliers. These are the people who will help you to create your own stylish and distinctive events from elegant to quirky, vintage to budget, handmade to couture.

And you can rest assured the only ones who make it into my dream team really are at the forefront of their respective fields. Because you see there is so much out there to look at in this ol’ wedding world but only a very small percentage of it has a real creative edge and style, and that is what my dream team reflects.

Wonderland Avenue is one such concept that really fits with this ethos, run by husband and wife team James and Louise King, they provide a hand-picked selection of the UK’s finest wedding photographers. The photographers they select are carefully vetted and selected based on the highest standards and expertise. And as James is a commercial photographer himself, with over 20 years experience shooting all over the world, he really understands what it takes to produce a breathtaking image so has applied this knowledge and experience with great aplomb to select only the very best wedding photographers.

For me choosing a wedding photographer is one of the most important aspects of planning a perfect wedding day. There are so many to choose from that it’s hard to know where to turn for objective advice. Wonderland Avenue really provides this and you can be assured one thing, the only photographers you find being recommended by them are the truly awesome ones, the ones who you’d give your right arm to have photographing your day.

One half of the dynamic duo behind Wonderland Avenue, Louise, told me all about the concept and a little bit too about the people behind the business….

Why did you set-up Wonderland Avenue?

When we got engaged back in 2006, James, a commercial photographer, was sent off to ‘find the perfect wedding photographer’. He thought a couple of hours on the web would do the trick but he was very wrong! It took months of scouring websites, magazines and directories to find a photographer who could offer what we were looking for, and just as we thought we had it cracked, he would stumble upon another… What we really needed was a site that brought brilliant photographers together and had already done all the research for us, so finding a wedding photographer could be as painless as possible. And so Wonderland Avenue was born!

What would you say has been instrumental to your success?

Without a doubt it’s the fantastic wedding photographers who make our site work.

Simon Coulson, Wedding Photography

What inspires you?

When we started the research for Wonderland Avenue we didn’t really know what we’d find, however when we came across photographers like Steve Gerrard, Allister Freeman, Eliza Claire & Ed Peers we were absolutely blown away with the quality of their work and it’s talented photographers like these that provide the inspiration for our site.

What benefit do couples get for using your site?

There are literally dozens of wedding photographers directories online today all vying for a piece of the action, ours is different. Our members are hand-picked, you cannot simply pay & join. A Google search of ‘wedding photographer London’ returns over 3 million results, couples are overwhelmed by choice. We aim to make that selection process much easier, instead of having to wade through thousands of websites wondering ‘is this wedding photographer any good?’ visitors to our site can simply browse a concise list of quality wedding photographers in their area and trust that we strive to include the very best the UK has to offer.

Lyndsey Goddard, Wedding Photography

Image credit: Lyndsey Goddard provided by Wonderland Avenue

What is your evaluation process for new photographers joining your site? What are you looking for?

We consider each wedding photographer individually, looking at the quality of their work, experience, consistency, creativity, value for money and also a well laid out website. We want to make sure that the whole process from browsing through Wonderland Avenue to booking your wedding photographer is as smooth as possible and that couples can trust our members will deliver the photographs they want and can treasure for a lifetime.

What trends do you see emerging for wedding photography?

There is certainly an increasing emphasis on honest wedding photography. We are seeing fewer traditional staged shots, with couples opting for a natural documentary style to capture their day.

What advice would you give to couples when choosing a wedding photographer? What should a couple be asking their photographer?

There are some amazing wedding photographers out there and firstly I think its essential to have a look at what is available very early on in your planning – fantastic photographers do get booked up quickly. Then it’s all about what you are looking for: is it documentary photography, fine art, traditional photography? Remember these are memories that will record your day for life and you want to make sure you have had a look at styles/photographs that you like so you can choose the right wedding photographer for you. Wonderland Avenue can help here having already scoured the country for the UK’s best, you can preview each photographers work on the site and link directly to their websites. A photographers own blog is also a great resource to check out as you can see real weddings they have shot recently and get some inspiration!

Once you’ve booked your wedding photographer, I do think a pre-wedding shoot is a brilliant idea. This gives you the opportunity to get to know your photographer so you are comfortable on the big day and gives you a chance to discuss the type of photographs you want. It can also be a fab opportunity to capture that gorgeous engagement glow!

Eternal Imaging, wedding photography, bride and groom

Image credit: Eternal Imaging provided by Wonderland Avenue

What should a photographer do to ensure the images they capture are what the couple wants from their day?

It’s all about getting to know the couple. A great wedding photographer will take the time to discuss the day with the couple and understand what their hopes are for their photographs.

Claire West Photography, wedding photography, bride and groom

What are your thoughts on the wedding industry and how has it changed / how will it change in the future?

The wedding industry is a pretty exciting place at the moment! There has been a real flurry of the more creative, quirky side of the industry with some of the great wedding blogs that have emerged and in terms of wedding photography, a recognition of the real talent out there.

I think the future will see more and more couples planning their day – their way and having as traditional or non-traditional a wedding as they want! It’s all about personal touches and there is so much inspiration out there, I think planning a wedding has never been so much fun!

I also think couples are increasingly taking their time in the planning to make sure their key suppliers deliver to their expectations.

Simon Ridgway, reportage photography, wedding photography

Whose wedding (past, present or future) would be your dream wedding to attend?

Well let’s face it, an invite to Kate and Wills’ wouldn’t have been bad would it? I think mine just got lost in the post…!

Who would you love to work/collaborate with and why? Do you have any plans to make this happen?

We love collaborating with the amazing photographers on Wonderland Avenue. I particularly enjoy the opportunity to work with them on the blog and with some of the fantastic applications we receive every day, we’ll continue to work with outstanding photographic talent.

tierney photography, wedding photography

Can you share with us a sneak-peak exclusive of future plans for your business / goals for this year?

We do have a lot happening on the site including the launch of our online newsletter which will go out to couples, wedding planners and other select suppliers. We are also looking at up and coming photographers and finding a place for them on the site. Our main goal is to keep improving the site and for Wonderland Avenue to become a must visit for every engaged couple!

When you are not working on your business what are you doing?

Spending time with our little boy, getting ready for our new baby and hanging out with our friends!

What is your ultimate dream in life?

Well, running Wonderland Avenue from our vineyard in the South of France has a nice ring to it!

? ? ?

Thanks so much to Louise for sharing this insight into Woonderland Avenue, wishing you lots more success for the future you have a brilliant concept and I for one am a big fan. You can check out their website here or visit their blog to catch up with their latest tips and news from the world of wedding photography.

All of the images featured in today’s post are by a selection of the amazing photographers who feature on the Wonderland Avenue website and have been used with kind permission of Wonderland Avenue. Each image is fully credited with the photographer responsible for it’s creation and if you click on the name of the photographer it will take you direct to theirwebsite or blog so you may drool over more of their amazing work.

The Wedding Dream Team ~ Cotton Candy Photography

Good morning one and all and what a lovely sunny time we’ve been having lately. Doesn’t a little bit of sun just make everything look so much nicer? I love...

Good morning one and all and what a lovely sunny time we’ve been having lately. Doesn’t a little bit of sun just make everything look so much nicer? I love this weather.

Things have been so hectic and busy for me in the past few weeks with a wedding to plan in just 12-weeks and my Nan’s 80th birthday party only days away. Yesterday I was in Manchester’s Northern Quarter on a styled engagement shoot for the lovely couple whose wedding I am helping to plan and style. It has been such a beautiful, fun and inspiring day and I cannot wait to share the images with you all. They are absolutely wonderful!

I feel like I am moving forward in the right direction towards my dream of becoming a full-time event planner and stylist which is very exciting and I am loving every single second of it all.  I love everything about planning events and really hope to be involved in so many more in the coming months. Fingers crossed!

I digress, however, because today I have another wonderful photographer to introduce you to. Well two actually as Cotton Candy Photography is owned by two girls, Gemma and Philippa, who’ve known each other forever and both love photography and all things creative. They specialise in capturing artistic & modern wedding photography and I fell in love with their work the second I clapped my eyes on it.

Wedding Photographer, photography, Wedding Photography, Vintage Wedding Photography, Wedding Photobooths, Photobooths, Cotton Candy Photography (1)

These girls deliver exactly what I look for in wedding photography, something a little bit different, with a dash of quirky, a sprinkle of creativity and a whole heap of fun. They have some knock-out images in their portfolio and are on the same page as me when it comes down to the traditional wedding photography of standard, repetitive and cheesy images – ‘We hate them’!. You won’t get any of that from these girls, they’re all about being feminine, soft and natural with a focus on creating images that are creative, alternative, vintage and fun. Their images really do ooze style with lomography, vintage and holga photo’s thrown in the mix. Tres bon. They have recently introduced a ‘Candy Booth’ to their service, which is an alternative take on the old style photo booths and a really popular choice now at weddings. I absolutely love these booths, the images you get back are so fun and unique.

I know how big a decision it is to make when choosing someone to photograph your wedding, and I feel it is crucially important that you not only LOVE their photographic style but that you also feel comfortable with them. Your wedding photographer should be someone you can imagine yourself hanging out with, they should ‘get-you’ and your style. This is why I started the dream team series, so I could bring to you some of the best photographers around but also give you a little glimpse into their personalities and help you get to know them.

I recently caught up with Gemma who told me all about Cotton Candy Photography……

Why did you become a wedding photographer?

Both of us wanted to change our career paths and focus on doing something that we love. Photography has been a hobby and a passion for both of us for years and it felt like a natural step to get together and work on doing it for a living. We’re at the age where a lot of our friends are getting married, so we’ve been to our fair share of weddings and seen our fair share of wedding photography from those weddings. Nothing stood out or inspired us. It all looked very generic and samey. We started to do a few friends weddings for free, we both really enjoyed it and got really positive feedback on our style, and it’s all gone from there!

Who / what would you say has been instrumental in helping you to become successful?

We have definitely been inspired by the approach American photographers take to wedding photography. Particularly Feather Love Photography and One Love Photo. Both of whom have their own unique artistic style and voice within the wedding industry, One Love Photo use retro toy cameras and re-imagined lenses to shoot their weddings, which makes each and every image look different, original and artistic. Check out some of these here and here. (I totally agree these are sensational images).

Who / what inspires you?

Aside from the American photographers mentioned above, we take inspiration from movies, music videos, other photographers, design blogs, books, art …etc!

Wedding Photographer, photography, Wedding Photography, Vintage Wedding Photography, Wedding Photobooths, Photobooths, Cotton Candy Photography (12)

Do you have a particular style?

Our style is to shoot artistic, natural and modern photography that moves in the opposite direction to the traditional style of wedding photography.

Wedding Photographer, photography, Wedding Photography, Vintage Wedding Photography, Wedding Photobooths, Photobooths, Cotton Candy Photography (13)

What is the most challenging thing about photographing weddings?

Probably that photographing weddings can be quite stressful, in that you cannot afford to get it wrong or make a mistake. There is a lot of pressure on getting the light right, getting the picture right, capturing everything and not missing anything of importance, at any point, ever!

Wedding Photographer, photography, Wedding Photography, Vintage Wedding Photography, Wedding Photobooths, Photobooths, Cotton Candy Photography (14)

and the best part of it?

Going through and editing the images, re-living it and being chuffed with what we have seen and taken. Then having a very happy couple tell you that they are really pleased and moved by what you have done … that’s always pretty nice!

Wedding Photographer, photography, Wedding Photography, Vintage Wedding Photography, Wedding Photobooths, Photobooths, Cotton Candy Photography (15)

What advice would you give to couples when choosing a wedding photographer? What should a couple be asking their photographer?

The key is to find a photographer that a) you are comfortable with, b) understands what you want from the day and c) has a style and approach to photography that you understand and like.

Wedding Photographer, photography, Wedding Photography, Vintage Wedding Photography, Wedding Photobooths, Photobooths, Cotton Candy Photography (17)

How do you ensure the images you capture are what the couple wants from their day?

We meet up with all of our couples at least once before their wedding day. We’ll go out, have a drink and chat about the day. We’ll show them some of our images and explain our style and make sure that they are on our wavelength. We encourage couples to show us any images that they don’t like as well as those images that they do.

What are your thoughts on the wedding industry and how has it changed / how will it change in the future?

In the last 2 – 3 years the industry has definitely seen a change with the introduction of younger photographers, particularly younger female photographers offering a different style and a different take on wedding photography. Blogs such as Rock ‘N’ Roll Bride and Love My Dress promote individuality and are steering couples away from the more traditional (standard) way of planning a wedding. The future will see more photographers making bold choices and bringing something quirky and kooky to wedding photography.

When you are not photographing weddings what are you doing?

I have just finished my Masters in Marketing with Digital Media (creating and establishing Cotton Candy was my final project). I also work part time for my boyfriend’s Graphic Design and Digital Marketing agency: Flint & Tinder. Phil is a project manager and works at a global publishing and media house in London. We also both undertake freelance photography projects under Cotton Candy. (We have photographed birthdays, fashion shows, dance troops, vintage crockery, couture wedding dresses and stationery to name a few!)

The Wedding Dream Team ~ Lawson Photography

These are the days I love doing what I do. The days when I get to share with you not only incredibly creative and talented people but thoroughly lovely ones to boot.

My Wedding Dream Team consists of the very best-of-the-best. Each ‘team’ member has been hand-picked following hours upon hours of research, as well as trusted recommendations, to bring you only the most talented and sought-after suppliers who really do have that creative edge, that passion, that ‘certain something.

And none come more talented than Lawson Photography. The Lawson’s are Pete and Laura, a husband and wife team who love weddings, smiley people and each other”. Aw they really are that cute and if you don’t believe me just hop on over to their blog to watch their about us video.

I have been aware of Lawson Photography for a few years now having drooled over their work which is hanging in a very elegant and beautiful hotel near where I live, I also know a handful of brides who have been lucky enough to have them capture their wedding days in all their glory. And they come with truly glowing references.

Their style is to “capture the atmosphere and love between the couple and their friends and family”, you wont find them shouting at your guests or having them line up for awkward group poses. Emotion can be a hard thing to capture on camera, but these guys get it right every time, not only capturing true emotions but also the atmosphere of every wedding – so beautifully – you really feel like you’re there with them. I have to admit I do visit their blog for a peek at their lovely pictures on a regular basis, their images quite regularly knock-my-socks-off they are so good.

One recent shot that did just that was this utterly brilliant kaleidoscopic magic moment from a wedding at Manchester Art Gallery, STUNNING, it still gives me shivers now.

I recently caught up with Laura to find out a little more about the two lovely people behind Lawson Photography and here’s what she told me…..

Why did you become a wedding photographer?

It was a happy accident.  We did completely different things at university; I did dance and Pete did politics, and when we met each other in our third year neither of us really had a set career plan for the future.  We liked taking pictures, so we did that a lot, and then my big sister got married and asked us to do the pictures.  It was really the first wedding we’d been to as grown ups, and we loved it.  It’s still amazing to us that this can be our actual job.

Who has been instrumental in helping you to become successful?

Each other! The fact that we are both equally obsessed with our work means it has become a huge part of our lives.  We have really similar taste and agree on most things so we find working together really easy, and we are both perfectionists so we are constantly pushing ourselves (and each other) to do better and better.

Who inspires you?

People are endlessly fascinating and definitely our biggest inspiration.  Being able to share a wedding day with someone and capture their emotion, and the moments shared with people around them is a real honour.  It’s all about the moments.

Do you have a particular photography style?

Our style is fun, relaxed and atmospheric.  We want our pictures to really capture what a wedding was like, but possibly make it look even prettier.  In the larger sense we hope when their grandchildren look at their album one day they can see how much they were in love.

What is the most challenging thing about photographing weddings?

Shooting a wedding is the fun bit.  No matter how long the day is, how mean the vicar was or how much your feet hurt it’s fun and it’s what we are passionate about.  The other (more boring) business related things like tax returns and filing are the most challenging part – we are messy creative types and it sometimes gets out of hand!

and the best part of it?

Sharing such a big day with someone.  It’s amazing to get to know all these lovely people and be surrounded by happiness.  Oh and cake!

What advice would you give to couples when choosing a wedding photographer and what questions should they be asking?

Wedding blogs are a great way to do your research and see what style of photography you really like.  Look at lots of photographer’s websites, and have a good rummage around to see if you love everything they do.  You need to see lots of examples of recent work (so check out their blog, not just their portfolio), and try to meet them in person if possible, they will be with you all day so you have to feel comfortable with them.  There are no standard questions you should be asking, so ask them anything and everything you think of.

How do you ensure the images you capture are what the couple wants from their day?

We blog everything we shoot, and we put as much information on our website as possible; this means that by the time we are meeting a couple, most know exactly what our style is (and what our cat is called!).  Not only is it important for couples to get the right photographer, it’s important to us that we get the right couples – if someone says they want 30 formal group shots and no pictures before the ceremony we know we probably aren’t for them and will recommend an alternative.  We are extremely lucky that most of our couples find us through word of mouth, they know what we’ll do and we know that they ‘get us’.

What are your thoughts on the wedding industry and how has it changed / how will it change in the future?

When we got married in 2007 it was all about the wedding magazine.  Pete would moan about the ever growing pile and I would be counting down the days until the next Brides was published.  Now it seems to be wedding blogs leading the way; brides have access to lots of real weddings from around the world on a daily basis, it’s an endless source of inspiration.  I think we’ll see more and more unique, creative, quirky weddings in the future; you can do anything you fancy.

Whose wedding (past, present or future) would be your dream wedding to photograph?

Natalie Portman.  Sure she’s beautiful and elegant but she also doesn’t take herself too seriously; the rap she did for Saturday Night Live was amazing!

When you are not photographing weddings what are you doing?

Pottering around doing DIY in our little cottage, cooking yummy food, chilling with our cat Puddington, watching films, reading lots and taking pictures of random things.

What is your ultimate dream in life?

To be old and happy, like the couple in the film ‘Up’. (I really must watch this film as I hear so much about it!)

Thank-you so much to Laura for sharing this insight into Lawson Photography, it is very clear to see from these images of their work just how relaxed and comfortable the couples are around Pete and Laura, ‘like they’re not even there’.

I for one am so pleased that Laura did not become the next Darcey Bussell and Peter is not our Prime Minister, as the world of wedding photography would truly, truly have missed them.

If you are looking for a wedding photographer please do get in touch with the Lawson’s but be quick, these guys get booked up fast (they are already booked up for 2011).
