Bloomsbury Vintage-Inspired Hair Clip by Vicky Trainor

Today I wanted to highlight the work of one rather fabulous lady, Vicky Trainor. Vicky creates some truly beautiful and delicate vintage-inspired designs of wedding pretty, some are paper-based and some are the wonderfully-embellished haberdashery items you see here which include wedding invitations, menus, table numbers and place names, favours, gift boxes and wedding signs, amongst a whole plethora of other gorgeous items.

Pimms O’Clock Wedding Reception Sign by Vicky Trainor

As is anything vintage-inspired and gorgeous I was first introduced to Vicky’s work through Love My Dress blog, and at a certain soiree earlier this year I had the chance to see her work up-close-and-personal and even own a piece of my own. But alas it was not to be, as you may remember if you read my adventures that evening, I turned up rather late (not through want of trying I may add) and missed out on the amazing goody bags being given out to each guest, and most importantly I missed out on a Vicky Trainor, Vintage Drawer Collection bookmark. Harumph.

Hearing of my plight (and general moaning) Vicky vowed to send me one and last week the prettiest package ever arrived on my doorstep.

I cannot tell you the excitement of getting something so wonderful like this by post, the packaging alone was worth the wait. What lay inside was the most intricately detailed and precious little piece of vintage material I think I have ever seen, yes I did almost cry, but that’s because I’m a massive softy. The bookmark was made from the most glorious vintage fabric, in a range of country garden colours, decorated with tiny buttons and flowers and most importantly of all, it had my name on it, well not mine personally but the name of my blog Pocketful of Dreams. Really it made me go all tingly inside to see this name ‘up in lights’ like that, so to speak!

And like I mentioned the packaging and presentation too was incredibly lovely, with the boomark sat within its own little box, topped off with a cute button, and inside a fabric covered cushion pad provided the resting spot for my new bookmark.

This kind of attention to detail is not often found and something to be praised, Vicky was incredibly kind to send me this bookmark and the whole experience was just so special, I will treasure it forever. And I implore you, go check out her work, if you want pretty vintage-inspired gorgeousness on your wedding day that you and your guests will also treasure forever.

The Wedding Dream Team ~ Pocket Typewriter

If you know me you know I have a little paper passion. I also have another love and that is of discovering new talent so I have both my loves fulfilled in today’s post.

Pocket Typewriter are Jack & Leckie, a brother sister team based in the Midlands. I first met Leckie at a wedding fair many months ago and knew instantly that Pocket Typewriter was going to be a success. Their designs are just so cute and lovely but in a “I have to have those” way not a sickly cutesy way and Leckie is really lovely, so warm and friendly, exactly the type of person I would be entrusting my wedding stationery to. And trust me with my paper obsession I would not be trusting this to just anyone.

Leckie has a buying background for companies such as Next and Boots whilst Jack studied design and went on to launch a t-shirt label until he set up shop with his big Sis!

Leckie says “Jack has a mad, quirky mind that allows him to create beautiful hand drawn images, which we then develop into delightful wedding stationery” and she told me a little more about their new venture that is Pocket Typewriter:

“It all started when I got engaged and Jack designed the invitation for me…. we have always wanted to do something creative together and when I fell in love with Jack’s design, I knew this was the path we needed to take, so I handed my notice in and here we are!”

Wedding Stationery, Wedding Invitations, Save the date (1)

Who / what has helped you along the way?

Well firstly the creativity and the uniqueness of our designs have made our launch a massive success. We were getting orders before we had even launched! We have a great supply base, with great quality and reliable printers (which is essential). But the main thing is that we have a passion for what we do, we love that we are able to contribute a little part to someone’s special day.

Wedding Stationery, Wedding Invitations, Save the date (2)
Who / what inspires you?

Well I speak for both of us when I say our biggest inspiration are our parents; they have been a fantastic support. We are a real family business with everyone getting involved! In terms of inspiration for our cards, we always like to think outside the box and so draw inspiration from everywhere and everything. Interior magazines, fashion, and places we visit. I keep a notebook that I am constantly sticking in images from magazines, adverts, photos I have taken.

Wedding Stationery, Wedding Invitations, Save the date (3)

Do you have a particular style and can you describe it for us?

Original, delightful and a little bit off the wall. We aim to offer something that is original and unique. Our ambition is that your wedding stationery is a delight for someone to receive and when they open it all they can do is smile as the detail is just enchanting. Every time you look at the stationery, you notice something new.

Wedding Stationery, Wedding Invitations, Save the date (4)

What is the most challenging thing about creating wedding stationery?

It is easy for us to come up with designs, ideas (we have too many, we can’t stop it all bubbling over) so the most challenging thing is focusing on a few ideas at a time and perfecting them.

and the best part of it?

The design, working with different people, sharing ideas. Our work is just so much fun!

What advice would you give to couples when choosing wedding stationery? What should a couple be asking you?

I think the most important thing is to go with your heart, if you fall in love with an invitation or any part of your wedding stationery, you can always make it work! For my wedding I chose elements from different collections of ours and it looks great!

Wedding Stationery, Wedding Invitations, Save the date (5)

Whose wedding (past, present or future) would be your dream wedding to work on?

It would be great to do Fern Cotton’s wedding, I think she would be great fun to work with!

Can you share with us a sneak-peak exclusive of future plans for your business / goals for this year?

Well we are going to be launching on notonthehighstreet.com in the near future with a range of wedding gifting cards, which are based on the same principle as our wedding invitations, with the pocket on the reverse, which is great for a cheque, gift voucher, note of what has been bought from the wedding list etc.. You can also add a beautiful personalized gift box, which is a great way to add that extra dollup of thought to a wedding gift. We will also be selling luxury wedding ribbon, which are great for making favours, for your napkins, tying on the backs of your chairs, finishing off your bouquets…. so many ideas!

Wedding Stationery, Wedding Invitations, Save the date (6)

When you are not creating stunning wedding stationery what are you doing?

Well to be honest, designing and developing, are what we mostly do…..because we love it! When we have time we spend it with friends and family.

What is your ultimate dream in life?

To carry on building this business with my brother and to start a family of my own.

? ? ?

You can check out more of their designs on their website here, these guys are definitely ones to watch and I wish them every success with their new business.

The Wedding Dream Team ~ Dear So and So Stationery

Well boys and girls I have another stationery supremo to share with you on this lovely fine day.
Dear So and So, Wedding Stationery. Wedding Invitations, Save the date invites
Dear So and So, Wedding Stationery. Wedding Invitations, Save the date invites

I first stumbled across the work of this young lady, Alex White, a few weeks back and absolutely fell in love with her fresh and quirky approach. A former freelance illustrator, who during the planning of her own wedding felt there was a lack of personalised, hand-illustrated invitations and so decided to delve into the beautiful world of wedding stationery!

Dear So and So, Wedding Stationery. Wedding Invitations, Save the date invites

Dear So and So offer bespoke stationery to suit all budgets with a side line of lovely sewn goods too, aptly named Dear Sew and Sew. Their main outlook is to provide you with lovely, intimate invitations that you can help design with a really one to one, personal approach. The majority of the designs are hand illustrated, and they are totally open to any ideas you have.

They can design wedding invites, place-names, table plans, save the date cards, birthday invites, new baby cards, christening invites, anything you fancy!

Dear So and So, Wedding Stationery. Wedding Invitations, Save the date invites

Alex told me “I think the style I offer up is quite refreshing and currently very popular within the vintage/indie wedding crowd..the majority of my stationery is all hand illustrated, every single detail is unique to your own wedding”

Dear So and So, Wedding Stationery. Wedding Invitations, Save the date invites

In terms of wedding trends she believes “More and more weddings are becoming very DIY, as the vintage look is fashionable and people are going back to the more hands on approach.
To tie in with this a lot more stationery is trying to imitate or look hand drawn, there is a huge resurgence of it in America, but I felt it had yet to really catch on over here as much”.

Dear So and So, Wedding Stationery. Wedding Invitations, Save the date invites

Her advice to couples when choosing wedding stationery? “I think you need to properly research your stationery supplier, there is no point going to someone whose style doesnt match your ideas…get to know their products before put your trust in them and if you like their work then
they will make sure you get exactly what you want!

Dear So and So, Wedding Stationery. Wedding Invitations, Save the date invites

“As my stationery is quite specialist I know the clients that approach me want something that is
obviously similar to the work I have created before, I like asking for images they like of weddings typography and images they have seen that they like, just to get an idea of their tastes. The colours have to be taken into consideration to make sure everything ties in nicely with their theme..and we take a lot of care in making sure the final printing methods and stock we use will compliment the designs!”

The future certainly looks rosy for Dear So and So, Alex told me “We are in the process of talking to various other talented people to get Dear So and So acting as more than just a stationery company, we already offer up hand sewn items, the end goal would be to have a few amazing people all working under the same umbrella offering up services for an incredible wedding day!”

When she is not creating stunning wedding stationery she can be found “Constantly illustrating! I actually work with my husband running an illustration/design company We Three Club mainly for music related items!” Wow this lady is talented, you really must check out this site too, they have the most amazingly funky and cool illustrations, I am in awe.
Alex finished off by sharing with me her ultimate dream in life “To be able to carry on creating lovely stationary for weddings! I would love to be involved more and more in creating the overall look of a wedding, as the stationery I feel ties in with every aspect, through photography/film etc…..I just want to work on really fun, inspirational weddings…….for people who want something a little bit different!”
Thanks so much to Alex for sharing her work and thoughts with me today, I will be watching with interest as her new business goes from strength to strength.

I know I’m going a little stationery crazy over here at Pocketful of Dreams towers but I just can’t help myself. In this day and age when everything is electronic and email I guess it just feels all the more special when that little envelope drops on the mat and it’s something so personal and unique that I have to have a little dribble.

None come more unique than the strikingly eye-catching collection of vintage and retro inspired stationery over at Sugalily. Run by Abbey Warner, a Derby and London based designer and her team of “textile lovers, typography geeks and letterpress lovers”.

Their wedding service Borrowed or Bleu has both “off-the-peg” designs and a “bespoke” service and includes save the date, day and evening invites, rsvp, order of service, seating plan, menu, name cards, table name cards, guest book and thank you cards. Each range can be adapted to suit individual colours and text can be changed.

In terms of trends for wedding stationery Abbey believes that “Vintage isnt going away anytime soon, my brides are certainly putting their own spin on it and not seeing the vintage trend as just a bit of bunting and some cupcakes but really immersing themselves in what it actually means to be a vintage bride. I am also increasingly being asked to work on projects that consider two key aspects ‘the make-do-and-mend culture’ of wartime britain and also how much I am considering my carbon footprint”.
sugalily, vintage wedding stationery, vintage wedding invitations, wedding stationery, wedding invitations, abbey warner, vintage wedding
It is true to say the wedding industry is changing and it is important for young independent designers such as Sugalily to ensure they have their finger firmly on the wedding fashion pulse. Abbey is no stranger to this and commented “In the last twelve months I think that all suppliers have had to really raise their game as brides expectations change, whether this is the influence of the US bridal market I am not sure, but brides are definitely getting more savvy and stylish”.

Run by a truly lovely husband and wife team, who describe themselves as “polar opposites in terms of work ethic”. Vici-Jane is a former graphic designer and marketer who says her “head is always in the clouds, concocting paper based ideas” while Richard has always had a soft spot for bygone era printing and is “practical, methodical and a dab hand on a letterpress machine”. But they agree on one thing “Neither would function without the other”. As you can see from the image of them above, hard at work together in their studio.

Artcadia was born in 2009 after their own search for unique and ethical wedding invitations left them feeling a little flat “We got very frustrated when looking for our own wedding stationery, website after website of identikit stationery with a diamante stuck on it. So, we thought we’d use what talent we had to start Artcadia, where we try to create very unique wedding paper goods”

They now create high-quality cards using a variety of printing methods including digital, letterpress and hot foiling and try to incorporate as many recycled or biodegradable products into each design as possible.

Wedding Invitations, Wedding Stationery, Artcadia, Save the Date, Menu Cards, Order of Service

Vici-Jane summed up Artcadia’s style beautifully “Our designs come from the heart, they are very personal to us and the people we work with – as opposed to being led by trends”.

The Wedding Dream Team ~ Ditsy Chic Invitations and Stationery

For those who know me this will come as no surprise at all. But I have a little obsession and it is all things paper-based! I just love drooling over the most gorgeous and beautifully crafted items, especially when so much creativity and passion has gone into creating them.

One lady who shares my love is the talented Marianne Lethbridge of Ditsy Chic, fast becoming known as a stylish choice for high-quality, personalised wedding stationery.

I caught up with Marianne this week to learn a little more about Ditsy Chic and Marianne’s insights into the wonderful world of wedding stationery.

Ditsy Chic, Wedding Stationery, Wedding Invitations, Bespoke Wedding Stationery, Pocketful of Dreams Wedding Planning Blog

Where do you get your inspiration from?

“I love design and all things pretty! My inspiration comes from so many places, from flicking through the latest fashion and home magazine, going shopping to rummaging round vintage fairs and talking to my clients. I am inspired by patterns and colours and whether it be a newly purchased dress or a vintage tea set, all the gorgeousness inspires me and helps keep my designs fresh and up to date!

I want to create wedding stationery that has a WoW factor, on trend and stylish, as I believe couples should have the chance to show off their personalities. It is their special day after all!”

Ditsy Chic, Wedding Stationery, Wedding Invitations, Bespoke Wedding Stationery, Pocketful of Dreams Wedding Planning Blog

What inspired you to start your business?

“I set up Ditsy Chic two years ago – it took a lot of courage to take the plunge and follow the dreams I had been dreaming for so many years!

Having worked as a designer and illustrator creating gorgeousness for many high street stores, I had always wanted to go it alone. I always wanted to make peoples day that extra bit special by designing unique wedding stationery and help make their dreams come true…. And now I do! I love my job and am so pleased I took that jump.”

Ditsy Chic, Wedding Stationery, Wedding Invitations, Bespoke Wedding Stationery, Pocketful of Dreams Wedding Planning Blog

Who has been instrumental in helping you to make your business a success?

“My clients!! I have worked with so many lovely couples and the feedback I get back from them and their guests truly inspires me to continue. It’s lovely to know that Ditsy Chic can help bring life and personality to a couples wedding day and make it that little bit more special.

I really love meeting new couples and hearing all about their wedding plans, so much so that I am always very sad when my part is over… these are the people who inspire me and have helped me make Ditsy Chic a success.”

Ditsy Chic, Wedding Stationery, Wedding Invitations, Bespoke Wedding Stationery, Pocketful of Dreams Wedding Planning Blog

What are your thoughts on how the wedding industry has changed/ will change in future?

“The wedding industry has certainly changed over the years. As budgets are stretched, couples want to stamp their own identity on their special day and make it more personal to them. With the use of the internet you can find almost anything their hearts desire, opting for slightly less traditional elements or even jetting off somewhere tropical to get married!

The internet has certainly helped Ditsy Chic reach out customers all over the UK and abroad with our website. We look forward to the changes to come and hope that Ditsy Chic can help create it’s mark on the future of the wedding industry.”

Ditsy Chic, Wedding Stationery, Wedding Invitations, Bespoke Wedding Stationery, Pocketful of Dreams Wedding Planning Blog

What are the key trends you are seeing that couples want for their wedding stationery?

“Wedding stationery is moving further and further away from the more traditional styles with couples opting for the more design orientated and individual style. People are looking to fashion on the high streets and bringing personality into their special day! 2011 and beyond springs forth a fresh decade of new trends and ideas. Here are just a few of the latest trends we have seen coming into our studio.”

Vintage Flair is a trend that we have seen this year and continues to grow strong as we enter 2011. Pretty florals, french wallpaper and vintage birdcages will help take you back to that bygone era. It offers a timeless and romantic style and can quite easily be accessorized with lace and embellishments, still offering the couple a very traditional theme. On the day try to compliment with pretty florals, birdcage centre pieces or even mis-matched crockery at your wedding breakfast!

Bright Bold Colours are mixing up a new trend for 2011. Modern couples are adding tropical sunshine into their wedding stationery! Whether getting married abroad or people who just love a splash of colour, couples are becoming more intrepid choosing vibrant shades of aqua, hot pink, lime green, bright yellow and purples. The combination of bright colours and fabulous exciting design can transform an ordinary invitation into a design that oozes personality and unique style that will Wow your guests the moment they open the envelope.

Relaxed Wording is becoming increasingly popular. Many more couples are hosting their own wedding and so the formalities of the traditional wording of the brides parents hosting the wedding are moving on. Couples are looking for more relaxed wording to describe their special day and choosing wording that will reflect them. It is important to have fun with the wording. I believe there shouldn’t be any rules. As long as your invitation includes the guest’s names, your names, the time, date and location you can word however you want.

Ditsy Chic, Wedding Stationery, Wedding Invitations, Bespoke Wedding Stationery, Pocketful of Dreams Wedding Planning Blog

…..and finally who would be your dream client?

“It has got to be Kate and William!! Their wedding is going to be a.mazing and I would love to play a part in it!

Ditsy Chic’s designs may not be as traditional as the Queen would like but they are a young, dynamic couple with modern ideas and I am sure we could create a design that echoes this whilst still having the traditional elements required. The Wedding Dream Team – Hello!Lucky Wedding Stationery

Hello Lucky, Wedding Invites, Wedding Stationery, Wedding Gifts

Hello!Lucky Wedding Invitations, Gifts and Stationery

My first welcome into the Dream Team hall of fame falls to the incredibly worthy Hello!Lucky print and design studio. Some of you may have heard of these lovely people before, for those who haven’t prepare to be wowed.

They are certainly not the new-kids-on-the-block having started creating wedding invitations, greeting cards and personalised stationery way back in 2003, they now have offices in both London and San Francisco selling worldwide thanks to the wonders of the web.

Hello Lucky, Wedding Invites, Wedding Stationery, Wedding Gifts

It all started when sisters and best friends Eunice and Sabrina Moyle co-founded Hello!Lucky in 2003 with a vintage Vandercook press in Eunice’s garage. Hello!Lucky now collaborates with leading stylists and event designers around the world. Their designs have appeared in publications including Martha Stewart Weddings, Daily Candy, InStyle, Lucky, Real Simple, Marie Claire, and InStyle Weddings and clients include Anthropologie, Kate’s Paperie, and Liberty of London. Wow how’s that for a who’s who list.

Eunice’s own wedding to Daniel is featured on their website, so colourful and full of fun…..

I especially love this custom-designed theatrical backdrop which co-ordinated perfectly with their ‘victorian aesthetic with a fairytale feel’ stationery. Beautiful…..

So what makes Hello!Lucky different?

They say: “We’re design innovators: we live and breathe great design. Our work has been published in 8 books and showcased in dozens of magazine and blogs in the US and UK, including Martha Stewart Weddings, InStyle, and Design*Sponge. We collaborate with leading stylists and event planners, and work selectively with some of the most talented artists and designers working today to create unique stationery designs. We’re constantly looking for creative and unexpected ways to bring great design into the world of stationery, and we spend hours perfecting and critiquing each design before it reaches you.”

PAISLEY, Hello Lucky, Wedding Stationery, Wedding Invitations, Wedding Save The Dates

Classic, colorful, and bold, with a touch of timeless elegance, Julia Rothman’s oh-so-pretty Paisley design. Save the Date from £3.88 per unit, Invitations from £4.00 per unit.

They are also letterpress specialists (Note: Letterpress is the oldest and most elaborate form of printing. The process uses metal plates to manually press and ink an image onto paper. It enables you to do a lot more and use a greater range of colours, imagery, papers and styles. However, it is also a more expensive printing option and fine letterpress printing is declining in use as it is being done by fewer and fewer printers) owning their own printing presses in San Francisco where their artisan printers and designers work together closely to craft beautiful stationery.  To learn more about their letterpress process see this great overview here. Digital printing is still offered too as an affordable personalized stationery option

Tattoo, Hello Lucky, Wedding Stationery, Wedding Invitations, Wedding Save The Dates

…as well as a small range of gifts. I can’t wait to get my hands on their fabulous book Handmade Weddings written in collaboration with stylist extraordinaire and former Martha Stewart Weddings senior style editor Shana Faust. Featuring over 50 DIY wedding crafts in six unique wedding styles, perfect for personalising any wedding day.
