Dream Find: Up In The Air Somewhere Homewares

Usually when I feature a shop or product in my Dream Finds column I like to feature one that’s homegrown, this is after all UK lifestyle blog. But sometimes I find something that’s so flipping good from across the water that I just can’t help but share it. Fear not though, as Up In The Air Somewhere ships internationally.

Up in the air somewhere, Stylish Homewares, Paper Mache Bowls, Golded Bowls, Pastel Homewares, Drinkware, Glassware, Ceramics, UK Etsy Shop

The paper maché sculptural bowls created by Susan Dwyer are made using thin strips of recycled paper, in various finishes from classic gilded gold to off-the-moment shades of mint and peach. They would look beautiful in your home holding all sorts of treasures and trinkets, or as interesting vessels for planted dispays at a wedding or event.

The prices are not shock-horror either, starting from £11 for the smaller bowls rising to £45 for the larger ones. Postage to the UK depends on the size of the item and how many you order but expect to pay between £12-£20.

Shop the Style: Tangerine Tango

Goood morning,

And how is everyone today?

I had a rather busy few days towards the end of last week, including speaking at a local business event to 80 business men and women about the values of blogging. It was a really nerve-wracking thing to do, particularly as I’m not the most confident of public speakers, but I survived and had some really lovely feedback from the people who attended, as well as meeting lots of inspiring new businesses.

It felt like a really big step for me and Pocketful of Dreams, so I gave myself a right ruddy big pat on the back and treated myself to two whole days off, meeting up with friends for dinner and chatter, oh and a little wine. It felt very nice to kick back, digest and reflect on the events that are happening around me, I have been so guilty in the past of ploughing on, and not stopping to appreciate the good times in life, this was one of those good times and I’m so pleased I gave myself that opportunity.

But that does mean that your usual Monday morning inspiration will actually be coming to you Monday afternoon instead as I want to add a few more finishing touches to the post first of all.

I still have some pretty for you now though and I have to say I am still a litte hung up on my recent foray into the bright and beautiful world of Tangerine Tango orange which caused quite a stir (no pun intended)!

Inspiration: Fade to Grey ~ Paper Pretty

I do have a teeny-tiny huge paper obsession so during my Fade to Grey styling inspiration week it would be rude not to include some pretty paper inspiration wouldn’t it?

Here’s some amazing examples of how to use chic grey across your wedding stationery suite:

  • These stunning ‘Tying the Knot’ save the Date cards feature vintage typography and a knot illustration which is lithographically printed onto a thick 350gsm card and comes complete with dark grey envelopes.
  • £155 for 50, or £195 for 100, you can have them printed with your own name and date.
  • Available from Rosalind Howard Bespoke Stationery on Not on the High Street

Grey Wedding, Wedding Ideas, Styling Inspiration, Grey Mood Board, Grey Wedding Invitations, Grey Wedding Stationery, Wedding Paper, Grey, Silver, Foil Blocking, Grey Save the Date (3)

  • Oh my, these tick every box on my paper pretty checklist: typographic design ~ check, heavy matt cardstock ~ check, co-ordinated foil stamping ~ check. God damn gorgeous ~ CHECK, CHECK, CHECK!!!
  • These custom designed invitations were created for a wedding in Venice and feature silver foil block printing of all the relevant wedding information onto a Colourplan Real Grey 350gsm card.
  • Designed by Good Job Creative Studio, an independent graphic design studio in Falmouth Cornwall.

  • A black, white and grey letterpress invitation suite looks so fantastic, again this is hitting right where it needs to for my love of typographic design. The fact that it includes a poignant poem on marriage Habitation by Margaret Atwood is a stroke of genius as well as a wonderful reminder of ‘what it’s really all about’.

Dream Find: Rust {Made In England} Jewellery

Hello boys and girls,

I have the most amazing discovery to share with you this afternoon and it makes me so very happy to support homegrown, independent businesses. Especially when they are as creative as this talented duo.

Artemis and Nao are a husband and wife team of jewellery designers and the people behind Rust jewellery. They proclaim that Rust is all about authenticity and craftsmanship and this is clearly so very evident in their amazing designs. With ideas coming from the Antique markets around London, and from pictures in books about history, they share a love of finding treasures and making them into jewellery or just being inspired by them. ‘Traditionally unusual’ is what they look for and here’s just a few of their designs to give you an idea of how this design philosophy translates……

Dream Finds Friday: It’s All Black and White ~ Chalkboard Finds

It’s fair to say I’m a total sucker for chalkboards. I have them scattered all over my house, I’ve used them to create various cool signs and decor items at weddings before now and I would pretty much paint the cat with chalkboard paint if she would sit still long enough to let me.

Yep I do love it and have shared more than a few ideas on these pages already, like the chalkboard placemats earlier this week as a way of keeping the kids entertained and remember the alternative wedding table plan and wedding guestbook ideas I shared?

Well here’s a few more ideas to satisfy that chalkboard longing……

Signs and Menus

Chalkboard, Wedding Ideas, Decor, Styling, Signs, Menu, Labels, Chalk, Blackboard, Handwritten, Rustic (1)

Image Credits: 1. Image Mark Tattersall, styling by Pocketful of Dreams 2. Image Mark Tattersall, styling by Pocketful of Dreams 3. Menu via The Pretty Blog 4. Menu via Pooffy Cheeks 5. Sign via Junkaholique 6 Menu via Ruffled Blog

Of course the simplest way of adding a little chalkboard to your day is with signage, from simple ‘This way to the wedding’ signs like the one I created for a wedding (top right), to ‘Bride and Groom’, ‘Mr and Mrs’ or ‘Just Married’ signs to hand over the back of your chairs, or as we did from the back of the getaway car (or in this case Scooter!).

Another way is to create a welcome board, with the running order of your day. I created the one shown above (top left) for a recent wedding with the help of a calligrapher, who hand wrote in chalkboard pen a lovely welcome sign for the wedding guests to find out what was happening on the day. If you have a tight schedule you can of course include timings, but this bride and groom wanted the day to feel relaxed not rigid so they opted to leave them off.

Writing our your menu onto chalkboard can save on expensive printing of menu’s for each place setting or table, and it looks really cute and rustic too. I like it when something quirky is used not just a standard picture frame, like the ornate tray (bottom left).

Labels, Place Settings and Table Numbers

Mini Chalk Signs via Ritzy Bee 7. Macaroons 8. Mason Jar Cocktails via Style Me Pretty 9. Sweetie Jars via Style Me Pretty

I love all these ideas for including chalkboard in a cute and subtle way. From painting ornate vases, to wine bottles to act as the table number instead of those awful pieces of floppy card on a metal stick. Much more creative don’t you think?

Those little chalkboard peg signs would make a great guestbook, have your guests sign it then pin to twine hanging up somewhere, or create an escort card display (instead of the standard table plan) and have one for each guest, they could even wear it so everyone could quickly acquaint themselves and get to know each others names.

I also love how the serving dishes have been painted here, then labelled with the item being dished up. Cute and quirky just like all those little labels on the sweet jars and mason jar cocktails.

The writings on the….Floor

Chalkboard, Wedding Ideas, Decor, Styling, Signs, Menu, Labels, Chalk, Blackboard, Handwritten, Rustic (3)

Image credits: 1. Balloons 2. Plush Hero 3. Chalk Fun 4. Colour Wheel 5. Hopscotch 6. Walking on sunshine

These have to be my favourite ideas of all for incorporating chalkboard into your wedding day. Creating a colourful design or display on the floor is genius, you could have a design created that matches your decor (why not enlist a cool street artist to help you create the look you want?), write a little message for your guests or tell a story.

The idea of a creative design on the floor doesn’t have to be confined to your wedding day either, this is a fab way to inject some colour and quirkiness into your engagement shoot should you be having one. So pick up some coloured chalk and get drawing. (Just make sure it somewhere you can easily wash it off afterwards and that you have permission)

♥ Another idea is create a little game for the kids, I bet many nowadays don’t even know what hopscotch is, so bring some retro fun to your wedding and remind them what real games are like.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this weeks bumper edition of Dream Finds Friday, as always if you’d like to add some of your wedding or party ideas to the blog linking party then click on the frog below and add your link. Alls I ask is that you link back to me in your post.

Happy Friday peeps.

Michelle xx
