Love Story: Polly and Jon’s Heartwarming Proposal video and Engagement Shoot

Some love stories touch your heart like no other, this is one such love story that has had me shed a tear or two as I write up the post.

The pictures here by Julia and You are beautiful, the story even more so, and please watch the proposal video as it is one of the most heartwarming and touching proposals I have ever seen.

Here’s Polly to tell you a little more about her journey to marrying her best friend Jon…..

“Jon & I met through work. We both work in the Police Force in the same Borough. I’d noticed him about for a few years and thought he was gorgeous, unbeknown to me he was thinking the same thing. We both had partners at the time so never actually spoke to each other. One day I was at his police station sat in ‘his’ chair, both newly single & the rest is history. The gorgeous Greek was mine. About 2 years into our relationship (Dec 2010 ) we went on holiday to Thailand….. I’ll let this do the talking:

We set about planning our wedding straight away and Set the Date of May 26th 2012!

Unfortunately our world was rocked when I got diagnosed with Cancer in July 2011. We found ourselves with a new focus.

Lots of talking and crying later we decided to go ahead with the wedding & just hoped my chemo would finish in time (I finished in March this year, & got the all clear in April).

We both wanted a relaxed fun wedding/party, rather than a formal traditional wedding so we started by booking Tipis4hire. We fell in love with the tipis as soon as we saw them! We didn’t really want a theme as such but I suppose we’re going down the festival-ish route. We’ve got people camping on the field and we’re sleeping in a Giant Tree house overlooking the Tipis.

Conventional venues just couldn’t offer us the flexibility we really wanted , and so we found North Hill Farm in Hertfordshire. Luckily there was a very pretty church in the local village & the Vicar agreed to marry us. Yay!! The Hog roast is booked along with a fish & chip van for the evening party.

Jon has been amazing, organising most things whilst the chemo made me poorly, or I was having a breakdown over the fact I’d have to wear a wig on my wedding day!! I’m over that now All in all, we just want our wedding day to be a celebration of life and of our love for each other. I cannot wait to marry my best friend surrounded by all my favourite people!”

Polly and Jon, I wish you all the luck in the world and hope your wedding day is everything you dreamed and more. It certainly sounds like it’s going to be incredible. Your story is both brave and beautiful, thank-you so much for sharing.

New Memories Made: A North-East Coast Engagement Shoot by Cat Hepple

When a submission lands in my inbox from Cat Hepple I just know I am going to love it….even before I see the images. Cat is a renowned photographer based in the North and she has this exceptional ability to capture the most exquisite and tender moments between a couple.

I have loved every engagement shoot, wedding and styled photoshoot she has so expertly captured, so it gives me immense pleasure to share her work with my readers today.

Cat told me a little of Jenny and Paul’s story too “Jenny and Paul marry on May 5th this year at Goldsborough Hall, a royal stately home in north Yorkshire.

Jenny was one of the most nervous brides to be I have ever met. She was so scared about having her photograph taken, so worried about how she would look and how awkward she would feel. The couple have no images of themselves up at home because they never like any so they were expecting not to feel at ease for this session.

I could tell how nervous they were from the very start, so this made the shoot so much more important – I needed to show them it could be really good fun , really relaxed and we could create something very special together.

The couple chose Runswick bay on the North east coast as Jenny’s parents have a little cottage there and its a place they both escape to when the pressure of planning the wedding gets too much.

They adore the fishing cottages along the cliffs and the peace of the landscape. They had prepared a little picnic basket and as the weather was so incredibly beautiful for the time of year ( Mother’s day) we were able to enjoy a couple of hours relaxing on the beach, enjoying the sun and they even went for a paddle.

We used the dunes, the sea, the lovely scenery for shots, and kept the whole session really easy going and fun. Jenny took a while to relax but she did eventually feel more at ease and enjoyed the session. She soon forgot about the camera.

After seeing the images, she’s now so much more confident about the wedding day and is relieved she’s had a chance to have her photograph taken like this long before the big day- she won’t be nearly so nervous she says.

The images are really precious to the couple. New memories made.”

I love this sentiment, as someone who is a bit of an awkward Annie in front of a camera I can totally relate to Jenny’s nerves. But it is truly the sign of a great photographer, who recognises this and works with you to relax and make you feel at ease so they can capture you off-guard and natural….they always make the best images.

Love Shoot: An Italian Romance

Love, romance and passion are at the heart of Italian culture, so it seems only fitting, in this week of celebrating Love on Pocketful of Dreams, that I should feature this Italian couple photographed by Julian Kanz.

Francesca and Christian had anything but an easy start to their relationship but their passion and love for each other far outweighed the barriers. Can’t you just see from the intimacy and beaming smiles just how happy they are together?

This is a sexy and sophisticated engagement shoot, full of amore…..

Love on the pier ~ An engagement shoot for two lovers

And now for the real thing…..love that is.

Today’s loving couple are Italian Richie Maiorano and Welsh Gemma Whitfield who live in Cardiff.

They chose Penarth Pier for their engagement shoot, and it’s close to their hearts, and very close to where they grew up.

Their photographer Lizzy May told me “Gemma is someone who reads wedding blogs religiously and is embracing all things vintage and original, so I was thrilled when she chose the pier. It hasn’t been renovated for a long time, and still has dozens of original features. I knew we’d get some amazing photos – no holds barred. To be honest, I could have asked them to lie down on the rocks and they’d have done it. They were up for anything, and we just had the most brilliant time.”

I love the beautiful simplicity of these images, capturing that special moment in time full of love and happiness. And I agree with Lizzy the pier is a brilliant location for a shoot, very rugged romance.

These guys just look like they are having an absolute ball don’t they? I really love the contrast of their fun and kitschy clothing against the urban decay going on behind them.

A romantic engagement shoot in the Musee de L’Orangerie ~ Paris

What could be more romantic than a weekend away in Paris with your loved one? Just imagine viewing exquisite and breathtaking art by Claude Monet at the Musee de L’Orangerie, a stroll arm-in-arm down tree-lined streets full of freshly fallen autumn leaves and stealing a few kisses as you sit sipping coffee at a street-side cafe.

Now imagine all that was caught on film.

That’s exactly what Californian couple Randy and Diana did, resulting in the most incredible engagement portraits imaginable, captured superbly by renowned international photographer Jacquelyn Poussot.

“Randy and Diana had just gotten engaged when friends of theirs announced that they would be married in Paris Fall of 2011. Excited for the international affair, they decide to take advantage of gorgeous French backdrop, and make their engagement portraits in the City of Lights. They chose to take their photos in the gorgeous Musee de L’orangerie – home of one of the most exquisite collections of Claude Monet’s Water Lilie paintings. The oval shape gallery lends itself to the most dynamic backdrop… even for Paris. The shoot took place in October during Paris Fashion Week. Randy & Diana will be wed in the late summer of 2012″

Such a picture perfect setting, I love this shoot for it’s chic simplicity. A wonderful idea for an engagement shoot too, to capture a real weekend away, one that is hopefully filled with wonderful memories.

A Windy Engagement Shoot in Liverpool

Well boys and girls I have a rather lovely an engagement shoot to share with you today but before I do I wanted to let you know what’s happening over here on Pocketful of Dreams during the festive season.

I am going to be posting every day this week, however you’ll find more of a seasonal mix of content towards the end of the week, rather than the usual wedding or crafting focus. For the simple reason that Christmas fever has taken over my brain and I can think of little other than turkey, mince pies and mulled wine. I’m pretty certain you’ll be feeling the same, and if not I’m sure you’re certainly busy putting those last minute plans in place for a super-duper Christmas.

Next week I’m having a little bloggy holiday, I am posting a little bit, but not a lot. Oh I do amuse myself. I’ll be having a wonderful break full of laughter, good times and lots of food, all in the company of my family so it’s time to step away from the laptop a little and enjoy this time with the people who mean the most to me in the world. BUT that doesn’t mean I am neglecting you dear readers, oh no, I will also be busy putting the finishing touches to what I am calling Super-January, for during super-january I’ll be blowing those toasty-warm arran socks right off your feet, oh yes I will. So make sure you keep on coming back to Pocketful of Dreams to see what I have in store for you.

Meet Clare and Robert, a rather loved up couple who were caught on camera by Scarlett Weddings Photography one windy day in Liverpool…..

“We photographed them in Liverpool City Centre, close to where their wedding would be in Hope Street. It was a very windy day which added a little windswept glamour to a chilly day. Clare & Rob chose us as their wedding photographers as they felt it was a sign because their little daughter is called Scarlett! The two of them met after Robert had secretly admired Clare from afar and he plucked up the courage to ask her out, waiting for her one day as she came out of work. A lovely traditional romantic tale in these fast paced online times. They clearly adore each other, we loved photographing them, they were so natural together”

I just love the architecture and urban surroundings of this engagement shoot, adds a real gritty beauty to the images don’t you think?

A surprise proposal ~ all caught on camera

Good morning everyone,

It’s nearly the weekend and we’re nearly into that mad Christmas week. I have so many exciting things to look forward to next week, most of all plenty of time with friends and family, exactly what Christmas is all about.

It’s also the season of love, with plenty of engagements tending to happen around about now, and one such engagement is being shared with you today, it’s so lovely it actually made me cry when I read the photographers account of what it’s all about.

Not only is it all warm and cosy, with it’s Christmas lights and winter plaid, reminding me a lot of my recent Winter Woolies mood board, but it also features a surprise proposal. All caught on camera.

Such a beautiful concept and I am delighted to be able to share it with you today…..

Melissa of Melissa McCrotty Photography shared all the details with me…

“Lance and Kathryn have known each other nearly forever….he fell in love with her in the fifth grade, but it took a few years to finally convince her! Years later, the two are still going strong. We arranged for a fun Christmas themed session to celebrate the holidays, but little did Kathryn know…..Lance had a huge surprise in store, he planned to propose at the end of the session! Kathryn thought she was getting a fun photo session, but in reality, she got a lot more!”

The PROPOSAL: Lance and Kathryn had been talking about getting engaged for a while, but because of a recent car accident, Lance was pretty confident he had her convinced it was going to be several more months until he would be able to actually purchase a ring. However, we knew the girl in her would have to wonder if this shoot might not be a good time and be on the lookout. So we decided to wait until the very end of the shoot. Lance came up the with idea, and it was precious….

One of the coolest features of our shoot location was a wishing well. When we were technically finished with the shoot, I started to say my goodbyes and thank them, then suddenly remembered “one more” shot I wanted to get….Hey, guys, this may be totally cheesy, but I had this one last idea…… would you both make a Christmas wish in the well….you know, to incorporate the cute wishing well?? I dug around in my camera bag for two pennies (which Lance had prepped me with) and stepped back to shoot the “wish”. After they tossed their coins, Lance casually asked Kathryn what she had wished for…..I was so caught up in the shoot, I forgot to even make a wish, she laughed. Lance, however, remembered to make a wish. He proceeded to pull his “wish” straight up out of the well…..and then dropped to one knee, ring in hand…… Kathryn said YES without a moments hesitation! It was such a cool ending to an already pretty amazing shoot!”

So precious, this beautiful idea really appeals to the old romantic in me. If this doesn’t warm the Christmas cockles of your heart I don’t know what will.

Love Story: A tale of two halves for an urban engagement-shoot

I love featuring engagement shoots and have even bleeted on about the virtues of them in my wedding planning advice post here. It’s hard to explain really what I love so much about them, maybe it’s my love of amazing photography, maybe it’s just because I’m nosey and love seeing how other people’s stories manifest into photography, or maybe it just satisfies my needs for a great, honest and true love story.

This shoot ticks all the above boxes, there is no doubt the photography is flipping incredible, how could it be anything else with Sarah Gawler behind the lens (I have to say I am more than a little excited to finally have some of her work gracing the pages of Pocketful of Dreams), with a background in fine art photography, this London-based photographer is heavily influenced by music, theatre and literature, she loves British style, all the quirks and eccentricities, and you can be damn sure that she’s going to capture something so very special from every one of her shoots.

But it’s more than just great photography, when you hear the story behind Hoa and Man, and understand where they came from, and where they are now, you feel like you know them a little, like you own a little piece of their story too…..

“Hoa and Man grew up on The Ferrier housing estate in South East London. They started dating as teenagers at school and both went on to have successful careers in The City. The Ferrier is now in the process of demolition and they felt it would be meaningful for them to revisit the site one last time for their engagement session. We walked around the empty blocks of flats as they remembered their shared histories and reflected on how life has changed. We finished the session at their unfinished yet beautiful warehouse apartment in East London”

Love Story: A retro diner, a polka dot dress and a Harley Davidson ~ Sara and Adam

Some photographers just ‘have it’, and you know everything they do is going to be freaking amazing. Tahni Candelaria Holm of Joyeuse Photography is one of those people. I’ve featured a few of her weddings and engagement shoots now and every one has been so blooming awesome. This engagement shoot, for Sara and Adam is no exception, in fact I think it may be one of my favourite ones yet.

The styling, the retro diner setting, the fifties polka-dot prom dress, oh and the Harley Davidson all make this jump off the page and scream at me ~ in the style of Chandler Bing ‘can this engagement shoot be any cooler’. Enjoy.
